Product description

The Boston glass bottle 200 ml is a container for liquid products used in larger quantities: tonics, hydrolats, hair waters, liquid soaps, and massage or body oils. Glass does not react with the contents, does not allow odours to pass through, and does not absorb the scent or colour of the filling. It is therefore also suitable for formulations with essential oils, alcohol, or vegetable oils. The packaging is suitable for direct contact with food, so it can be used outside of cosmetics as well.

Bottle is the term for the shape: a cylindrical body with rounded shoulders and a neck with a PP28S thread. The dispensing method is determined by the chosen closure.

What the bottle is suitable for

  • Water-based products – tonics, hydrolats, micellar and facial waters.
  • Rinse-off cosmetics – shower gels, shampoos and liquid soaps. Glass is heavier and more fragile than plastic, so it is better suited for a shelf by the sink than for use in the shower.
  • Oil blends – massage, body and bath oils, including blends with essential oils that could degrade certain plastics.
  • Alcoholic extracts and tinctures – glass is resistant to ethanol even with prolonged contact.
  • Food use – syrups, flavoured oils, vinegars and herbal extracts from home production.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for during normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference between them provides a reserve for the closure or pump that extends into the neck, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling right to the neck may cause the contents to overflow when the pump is attached, or to press against the closure when heated.

What is good to know

Before the first use, wash the bottle with warm water and dish soap and rinse thoroughly. Then disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely. Residual water in the container increases the risk of microbial contamination, especially with water-based products.

Glass handles sudden temperature changes poorly. Do not fill a cold bottle with hot contents, and do not rinse a hot bottle with cold water — it could crack.

The straight cylindrical body provides sufficient surface for a label; the dimensions needed for its design are listed in the parameters. The packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products; the declaration can be found in the product parameters.

Closures with the same neck type and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing, and behaviour of the container with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

What volume should the Boston glass bottle 200 ml be filled to?
The Boston glass bottle 200 ml should be filled to the nominal volume of 200 ml, not to the brim. The total volume to the neck is larger and provides a reserve for the closure or pump and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the contents may overflow when closing.
Is the Boston glass bottle 200 ml suitable for food use?
Yes, the Boston glass bottle 200 ml is suitable for direct contact with food under normal and intended conditions of use. However, suitability applies to the bottle itself, not to the closure. For food use, a closure that is also rated for food contact must therefore be selected.
Can the Boston glass bottle be refilled?
Yes, the Boston glass bottle can be filled repeatedly, as glass does not absorb the scent or colour of the previous contents. Before refilling, it must be cleaned and disinfected in the same way as before the first use and allowed to dry completely. With repeated use, it is advisable to check the seal of the closure or replace it with a new one.
Is the Boston glass bottle suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based products?
Yes, glass is resistant to essential oils, ethanol and vegetable oils, even with prolonged contact. The more sensitive part of the packaging is typically the closure, whose plastic and sealing components may react to concentrated essential oils or solvents. It is therefore advisable to test the combination with the specific formulation in advance.
What closure fits a bottle with a PP28S neck?
The bottle accepts closures designed for the same neck type, i.e. PP28S. The choice depends on the product: thinner liquids are dispensed differently from gels or oils. When combining a bottle and closure yourself, we recommend filling a test unit and verifying that the closure seals and dispenses as expected.
