Product description

A plastic bottle in the shape of a vial with a 10 ml capacity is a small container for samples, trial batches, and travel sizes. It is made from PET, a lightweight and shatterproof plastic, making it suitable wherever glass would be unnecessarily heavy or fragile. Through the clear wall you can see the colour and clarity of the contents, and during filling, the level.

The bottle is suitable for contact with cosmetic products as well as direct contact with food.

What the 10 ml plastic bottle is suitable for

  • Samples – a small volume is enough to try a facial toner, oil, serum, or shower gel without using up a full-size pack.
  • Travel sizes – the bottle fits in a handbag, toiletry bag, or carry-on luggage and will not shatter if dropped.
  • Trial batches during formula development – through the clear wall you can immediately see turbidity, sediment, phase separation, or colour change, so the bottle is also useful for monitoring stability.
  • Small portions of liquid foods – flavoured oils, syrups, or herbal extracts for tasting or gifting.

It fills best with liquid to mildly viscous contents. Thick creams and butters are difficult to fill and remove through the narrow neck – a jar is more practical for those.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is intended for during normal filling. Total brim volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides a margin for the closure and for expansion of the contents when temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If filled to the neck, the contents may spill when closing, contaminate the thread, and compromise the seal.

With such a small volume, the cleanest way to fill is with a syringe or a small funnel. The neck stays dry and the closure seals better.

What's good to know

Preparation before first filling. Wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow it to dry completely. Residual water in the container puts unnecessary strain on the preservation of the finished product.

PET softens and deforms with heat. Do not boil the bottle, do not sterilise it with hot steam, and fill it only with cooled contents. Use alcohol for disinfection, not heat.

Compatibility with contents. Aqueous solutions, emulsions, and vegetable oils are commonly stored in PET without issue. Do not expose the container to aggressive chemicals or solvents.

Closure. Closures with the same neck type (stated in the product parameters) and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range.

Label. The dimensions needed for label design are in the product parameters. A label adheres better to a dry and degreased surface.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear 10 ml plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, the clear plastic bottle transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. Products containing vegetable oils prone to oxidation, natural pigments, or sensitive active ingredients should be stored in the dark, for example in a box or a drawer. For longer storage of such products, a dark glass container is a safer choice.
Can the 10 ml plastic vial bottle be reused?
Yes, the plastic vial bottle can be reused after thorough cleaning. Wash it with lukewarm water and a cleaning agent, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. Hot water and boiling are not suitable as PET deforms with heat. A scratched or deformed container is best discarded.
Is the 10 ml PET bottle suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based solutions?
We do not recommend PET bottles for undiluted essential oils, as they can degrade the plastic over time and glass is a safer choice for these. The same applies to concentrated fragrance compounds. Finished products in which essential oils are diluted at standard cosmetic usage levels are generally stored in PET without difficulty. With a higher proportion of alcohol or fragrance components, we recommend performing a compatibility test with the specific formulation beforehand.
Is the 10 ml plastic bottle also suitable for food?
Yes, the 10 ml plastic bottle is suitable for direct contact with food under normal and anticipated conditions of use. It works for small portions of liquid foods, for example as a tasting sample or a gift. Fill with cooled contents only, as PET is not suitable for hot filling. The bottle should be clean and completely dry before filling.
What closure is suitable for the 10 ml plastic bottle?
The 10 ml plastic bottle takes a closure with the same neck type as stated in the product parameters. The dispensing method is chosen according to the consistency of the contents and whether it is to be dropped, sprayed, or poured. With a custom bottle-and-closure combination, it is advisable to check the seal of the filled container, especially before travelling or shipping.
