Product description
A black plastic lid for closing a glass jar 100 ml with a 56 mm neck. Between uses it protects the contents from dust and drying out, and the closed jar can be carried. It is also suitable as a replacement lid when assembling your own combination of jar and closure.
Inside the lid is a foam sealing insert that, when tightened, seats on the neck rim and limits air access to the contents. The lid is suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration can be found in the product parameters.
What products is it suitable for
A wide-neck jar is used for products applied with a finger or spatula. The lid therefore comes into contact mainly with thicker textures:
- Creams and body butters – the insert limits water evaporation from the emulsion and surface drying of the cream.
- Balms and anhydrous butters – closure limits air access, which matters for oils sensitive to oxidation.
- Scrubs, face and hair masks – the closed jar protects the contents in the bathroom from splashing water.
The jar with lid is not intended for thin liquids. Leak-tightness when transported on its side depends on the specific content and tightening, so it is recommended to verify it by testing.
Sealing and working with the lid
The lid body is made of rigid ABS plastic, which holds its shape. The seal is provided by a foam polyethylene (EPE) insert. It is soft, conforms to the glass rim and compensates for minor irregularities in the neck. The lid only needs to be tightened moderately by hand. Excessive force unnecessarily compresses the insert and shortens its lifespan with repeated use.
When hot filling (balms, anhydrous butters), close the jar only after the contents have cooled completely. Moisture condenses under a lid placed on a warm product.
Before closing, it is worth wiping the neck rim and thread. Residues of cream or oil on the rim impair the insert's seating and dry out in the thread over time.
Good to know
Preparation before first use. Wash the lid in lukewarm water with detergent, rinse and let it dry thoroughly. Then disinfect it with a brief spray or wipe of isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it air out. The foam insert retains moisture longer than smooth plastic, so allow it sufficient time to dry.
Do not boil or sterilize the lid with hot air. Plastic may deform at high temperatures and will no longer seal. Acetone and other strong solvents that damage the ABS surface are also unsuitable.
Filling the jar. The jar is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the container is designed for in standard filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical glass volume up to the neck rim. The difference between them is the allowance for the lid with insert and for the expansion of the contents with temperature change. Overfilling soils the insert and thread with every closing.
Material sensitivity. The lid is intended for finished cosmetic products such as creams, butters and balms. Concentrated essential oils and products with a high alcohol or solvent content may degrade the plastic and insert over time. For such contents, testing with the specific formulation is recommended.
Combination with a jar. Jars with the same neck and ready-made jar-and-lid sets are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and behaviour of the packaging with the specific product.
At end of life. The lid belongs in sorted plastic waste collection.
