Product description

The 5 ml roll-on ball is a replacement and accessory part for 5 ml roll-on bottles. It sits in the insert at the bottle neck and, when moved across the skin, applies the contents in a thin, even layer. It is suitable wherever a product needs to be applied precisely and in small amounts: perfume oils, essential oil blends in a carrier oil, eye serums, lip oils, or targeted nail and cuticle care.

A spare ball is particularly useful when the original one is lost or damaged, or when the bottle is refilled repeatedly and the ball should be replaced with a new one.

How it dispenses as a roll-on

The ball rotates freely inside the insert and lifts a thin film of liquid from the bottle onto its surface. The amount of product applied depends mainly on the viscosity of the contents:

  • Light oils and oil blends – applied smoothly and evenly; the most common fill for roll-ons.
  • Aqueous and alcoholic solutions – dispense more generously; with very thin contents, check whether the bottle leaks during transport.
  • Thick gels and emulsions – the ball picks these up poorly or unevenly; only fluid, easily spreadable textures are suitable for roll-ons.

Before a larger fill, it is worth filling one bottle as a test, leaving it on its side for a day, and checking both the seal and how the ball dispenses the contents.

Good to know

Preparation before use. Before first assembly, wash the ball, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow it to dry completely. Any remaining water or disinfectant would otherwise get directly into the product.

Assembly. Press the ball into the insert with even pressure until it clicks into place. The insert with the ball is then pressed into the neck of the filled bottle. Once assembled, the ball should rotate freely and must not fall out of the insert.

Filling the bottle. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling conditions. The total brim volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. This difference serves as a reserve for the insert with the ball and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes.

Fill the bottle only up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. When pressing the insert with the ball in, the contents would otherwise be pushed out, soiling the neck and thread.

Compatibility. According to the technical documentation, the ball is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the relevant regulatory requirements. It is designed for 5 ml roll-on bottles from the Handymade range, where complete sets are also available. When combining with a different bottle or insert, we recommend verifying the dimensions stated in the specifications, the seal, and the behaviour with the specific formulation.

Reuse. When refilling, remove the ball from the insert, degrease it, disinfect it, and dry it. If the surface is scratched or the ball no longer rotates smoothly, replace it with a new one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the roll-on bottle ball used for?
The roll-on bottle ball applies liquid contents directly to the skin in a thin layer. It rotates inside the insert in the bottle neck and carries a small amount of product on its surface. This allows perfume oils, serums, or essential oil blends to be dispensed economically and precisely on the chosen area.
Does the 5 ml roll-on ball fit every roll-on bottle?
No, the 5 ml roll-on ball is designed for 5 ml roll-on bottles from the Handymade range and their insert. For a bottle from another source, the dimensions stated in the specifications must be compared and the seal tested on one filled sample. A correctly assembled ball rotates freely and does not fall out of the insert.
What products can be applied with a roll-on ball?
A roll-on ball can apply liquid products with low to medium viscosity, in particular oils and oil blends. Suitable options include perfume oils, diluted essential oils, eye serums, and lip oils. Thick gels and creams are not picked up evenly by the ball. Very thin aqueous or alcoholic solutions should be tested for leaks beforehand.
How is the roll-on ball cleaned before filling?
Before filling, the roll-on ball is washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and left to dry completely. For repeated use, any residue from the previous contents must first be removed; for oils, warm water with a cleaning agent helps. The bottle should not be sealed with a damp ball, as residual water can shorten the stability of the product.
Why is the roll-on bottle leaking or the ball not dispensing?
A roll-on bottle most commonly leaks or fails to dispense due to unsuitable viscosity of the contents or an incorrectly assembled ball. Contents that are too thin may seep around the ball; contents that are too thick will not reach its surface. It helps to check whether the ball has clicked into the insert and rotates freely, whether the bottle is overfilled, and whether the cap is tightly closed.
