Product description
The black-gold dropper is a closure for drop-by-drop dispensing, designed for bottles and vials from which the contents are withdrawn in small amounts. It consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb, and a plastic threaded part with a decorative aluminium ring. It is suitable for facial serums, oil blends, extracts, and active ingredient concentrates where precise, clean dispensing matters.
The black-and-gold finish has a stronger visual impact than a standard white or black dropper. It is therefore used primarily where the packaging is meant to reflect the character of the product, for example with facial oils, beard oils, or gift sets. The dropper is suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
What the dropper is suitable for
- Facial and hair serums – drop-by-drop dispensing enables economical use of concentrated products and keeps the contents away from fingers.
- Oil blends and macerates – thin to medium-viscosity oils draw up easily through the tube and the dose can be estimated accurately.
- Alcohol and glycerine extracts – the glass tube tolerates both aqueous and alcohol-based contents.
- Concentrates in cosmetic manufacturing – the dropper is also useful in the workshop for measuring small amounts of colorants, extracts, or active ingredients.
Drop size depends on the density and surface tension of the contents. A drop of oil differs from a drop of water-based serum, so drop-based dosing should be treated as approximate. If the number of drops is to be stated on the label, we recommend measuring it by weight with the specific product.
Tube length and bottle selection
Two parameters matter with a dropper: the thread type and the tube length. Both are listed in the product specifications. The thread must match the bottle neck, otherwise the closure will not seal. The length determines whether the tube reaches the bottom. A tube that is too short will leave some contents in the bottle; one that is too long will rest on the bottom and prevent the closure from being tightened fully.
Bottles with matching neck types and ready-made bottle-and-dropper combinations are available from Handymade. When assembling your own combination, we recommend testing the seal, dispensing performance, and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. The nominal volume is the quantity the container is designed for under normal filling conditions; the total volume extends to the very top of the neck. The difference between the two provides a reserve for the dropper tube, which displaces some contents when the cap is closed, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes.
What to know before use
Preparation before first fill. The dropper should be washed, disinfected, and allowed to dry completely before use. Residual water in the tube or bulb can degrade anhydrous and oil-based products in particular.
Material sensitivity. The glass tube is fragile and may crack if dropped or knocked sharply against the bottle bottom. The silicone bulb is suitable for aqueous, glycerine, and oil-based contents, but with certain formulations it may soften or swell over time.
Undiluted essential oils, fragrance compositions at high concentrations, and products with a high proportion of silicone oils may degrade the silicone bulb. With such contents, we recommend carrying out a seal and appearance test on the bulb over several weeks before filling the entire batch.
Aluminium ring surface. The decorative metal part is sensitive to scratching and prolonged contact with harsh cleaning agents. A soft cloth is sufficient for cleaning. Product residue on the thread is best wiped off immediately after filling.
Reuse. The dropper can be reused after thorough cleaning and disinfection. Before reuse, check that the bulb has not lost its elasticity and that the tube is not chipped at the tip. After strongly aromatic contents, the silicone may retain the scent, so it is best to reuse the dropper with a similar product.
Sorting for recycling. The dropper is made from multiple materials; it is advisable to separate the individual parts before sorting for recycling.
