Product description
The black-and-gold dropper with a length of 44 mm is a closure for dispensing drop by drop that also seals the bottle. It is suitable for thin to medium-viscosity liquids used in small amounts: facial serums, oil blends, alcoholic extracts, beard oils, and cuticle oils. The short tube is designed for low bottles with a small volume and an 18/410 neck.
The liquid is drawn up by a glass tube, compression is provided by a silicone bulb, and the closure consists of plastic with an aluminium sleeve. Under normal use, the content comes into contact primarily with glass. The dropper is suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
What the dropper is suitable for
- Serums and concentrates – drop-by-drop dispensing helps maintain small doses when working with active-ingredient products.
- Facial and hair oils – oil is applied directly to the palm or skin without running down the neck of the bottle.
- Alcoholic extracts – thin liquids are drawn up quickly and drip evenly.
- Samples and trial batches – with small volumes, the content can be withdrawn without unnecessary waste.
The dropper is not suitable for thick gels, creams, or emulsions, as the tube cannot draw them up. A pump dispenser is more appropriate for such products.
How to choose the right length
The choice depends on the neck type and the internal height of the bottle. The tube should reach just above the bottom. One that is too short will leave some of the contents in the bottle; one that is too long will press against the bottom and prevent the closure from being tightened fully. The dropper length and thread type are listed in the product parameters, where they can be compared with the specifications of the chosen bottle.
Bottles with the same neck type, as well as ready-made bottle-and-dropper combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying seal integrity, dosing behaviour, and the compatibility of the packaging with the specific formulation.
The bottle is filled to its nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the packaging is intended under normal filling conditions; the total volume is the physical capacity right up to the rim. The difference between the two provides headspace for the dropper tube, which displaces some of the contents when inserted, and for expansion of the fill material when the temperature changes.
Good to know
Before first use, the dropper is washed, and both the tube and the bulb are rinsed with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and allowed to dry thoroughly. Any water residue inside the bulb would otherwise enter the product — which is particularly problematic with anhydrous oil-based blends.
Drop size depends on the viscosity of the contents. A thin alcoholic solution forms smaller drops than an oil. If the label is to state dosage in drops, the number of drops per millilitre should be determined by testing with the finished product.
The silicone bulb may swell or soften with prolonged contact with concentrated essential oils and certain solvents. Bottles containing such contents should be stored upright to keep the fill away from the bulb, and compatibility should be verified on a test sample.
The glass tube is fragile. When fitting the dropper, it should be inserted straight into the neck without levering it sideways. The aluminium sleeve scratches easily, so it should be cleaned with a mild detergent and a soft cloth.
The dropper is made of several materials. When disposing of it, the glass tube should be separated from the closure and each part sorted according to its material.
