- Description
- Kokum butter, refined, is a plant-based butter pressed from the seeds of the Garcinia indica tree, added to formulations as a firm-textured emollient . It softens the skin, helps retain moisture and at the same time adds body to creams, balms and body butters. In a formulation it therefore serves two purposes at once: it conditions the skin and holds the shape of the product. It suits facial, body and hair care, lip balms and nail preparations. According to the manufacturer's data, it absorbs quickly and leaves no heavy greasy feel after application, making it suitable for lighter emulsions as well. What kokum butter brings to a formulation Skin softening and protection – as an emollient it softens and smooths the skin and forms a thin layer on it that slows water evaporation. The manufacturer recommends it especially for dry, rough and cracked skin. Hydration and skin barrier support – the lipid layer helps the skin retain its own moisture, resulting in a smoother and more supple surface. The outcome depends on the dosage and the rest of the formulation. Fast absorption – according to the manufacturer's data, the butter absorbs into the skin quickly and leaves no greasy film. Hair care – the manufacturer states that in hair butters, conditioners and masks it softens dry and damaged hair and makes it easier to style. Product structure – the high content of stearic acid gives the butter its firmness, making it suitable wherever you need to reinforce consistency: in sticks, lip balms or solid body butters. Use in a formulation Kokum butter belongs in the oil phase . It dissolfull description on the product page →

Kokum butter is one of the most stable and also the hardest of the plant butters on the market. Its appearance is nevertheless unusual - it is fairly crumbly, has a greyish cast and almost no scent. It comes from the fruit kernels of the Indian tree Garcinia indica.
It is very popular in cosmetics because it stays solid at room temperature yet begins to melt on contact with the skin, though only slightly. It is also used as a substitute for cocoa butter in chocolate making. It has rejuvenating effects and marked moisturising properties. It has a uniform triglyceride composition (containing up to 80% SOS triglycerides - stearic-oleic-stearic). It helps prevent the skin from drying out, heals cracked skin and helps heal ulcers. It is non-comedogenic, so it does not clog pores. It helps stabilise emulsions. It has high oxidative stability. Melting point: 35 - 40 °C.
It can be used in a variety of cosmetic products. For cold process soap making, use a maximum of 5-10 % (the high stearic acid content speeds up trace considerably). For the same reason, do not exceed 5% in body lotions and conditioners (ideally 1-3%). In body butters and balms, 5% or more can be used. It combines excellently with beeswax and candelilla wax and with all types of oils.
Further information on the quality of the product can be found in the certificate of analysis, which is updated with every new batch.
All raw materials supplied are of cosmetic grade and are not suitable for internal use. Use suitable protective equipment when handling them.
