Product description
A black glass dropper bottle with a capacity of 30 ml is a packaging option for smaller quantities of cosmetic preparations that need to be protected from light. The black glossy glass conceals the contents, making it particularly suitable for formulations with sensitive ingredients: facial serums, oil blends, beard oils, tinctures, or essential oil blends.
Glass is inert to common cosmetic contents. It does not absorb scent, is airtight, and is compatible with water-based, oil-based, and alcohol-based preparations. The packaging is suitable for contact with cosmetics as well as for direct contact with food.
Suitable applications
- Serums and facial oils – the 30 ml volume corresponds to a standard size for preparations dosed by drops or a single pump.
- Light-sensitive preparations – vegetable oils prone to oxidation, extracts, and vitamin-containing formulations are less exposed to light in black glass than in clear packaging.
- Essential oils and blends – glass does not react with them, unlike some plastics, which can be degraded by essential oils over time.
- Tinctures and alcohol-based extracts – alcohol does not harm glass and the packaging does not affect the taste or scent of the contents.
- Samples and travel sizes – the smaller volume is practical when testing a new formula or assembling gift sets.
Nominal and total volume
Two volumes are stated for packaging. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the bottle is designed under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck. The difference between them provides clearance for the closure, dropper, or pump, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Both values are listed in the product specifications.
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. A dropper insert or pump dip tube will displace some of the contents once inserted. An overfilled bottle would overflow when closed, leaving the thread contaminated.
Closures and combinations
The bottle is supplied without a closure. Closures with the matching neck finish (stated in the specifications) as well as complete bottle-and-closure combinations are available from Handymade. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dosing behaviour, and compatibility of the packaging with your specific formulation. A thicker oil, for example, doses differently than a thin toner.
Good to know
Preparation before first filling. Wash the bottle with warm water and a cleaning agent and rinse thoroughly. Then sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water inside the bottle is a particular risk with anhydrous oil-based preparations.
Monitoring the fill level. It is difficult to see through black glass how much content remains or what it looks like. When filling, it is therefore worth measuring the dose in advance — for example with a graduated cylinder or syringe — rather than estimating by eye.
Glass tolerates sudden temperature changes poorly. Hot contents should not be poured into a cold bottle, and a heated bottle should not be rinsed with cold water, as it may crack.
Label. Labels should be applied to dry, degreased glass. The dimensions needed for label design are listed in the specifications. On a black background, a label with a light background or white print is more legible.
