How to use the spray pump

Screw the pump onto any bottle with an 18/415 neck. Bottles with this neck type and ready-made bottle–pump combinations are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend always checking the seal of the thread and testing the pump's behaviour with your specific formulation.

The pump is designed for thin, liquid contents: aqueous solutions, hydrosols, toners, alcohol-based solutions, and fragrance waters. Thicker formulations, emulsions, gels, or products with undissolved particles will either not be drawn up by the pump or will be expelled as a stream rather than a mist, and the nozzle may clog. Vegetable oils generally cannot be dispersed into a mist through this type of sprayer. For oil-based products, droppers or non-spray pumps are more suitable.

If the dip tube is too long for the chosen bottle, trim it with a sharp knife or scissors so that its end sits just above the bottom. A tube that is too long will bend inside the bottle and may draw in air rather than product.

Good to know

The pump combines several materials: plastic (PP) and aluminium on the glossy actuator. For alcohol-based fragrance waters and formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking whether the glossy surface coating changes with prolonged contact with the contents. The contents normally do not touch the actuator, but this may occur if the bottle overflows or is not closed properly.

Before first use, it is advisable to rinse the pump with clean water or isopropyl alcohol and allow it to dry. With repeated use, flush the mechanism with warm water. If product residue dries in the nozzle, the pump loses pressure or sprays unevenly. The pump is not intended for sterilisation by boiling or immersion in hot solutions.

According to the technical documentation, the packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products. Since the pump contains both plastic and aluminium, separating the materials for recycling is recommended where the local collection system permits.
