Product description
A white plastic bottle with a nominal volume of 150 ml is a container for liquid and semi-liquid products such as shampoos, shower gels, conditioners, body lotions, and tonics. It is made from PET, which is lightweight and shatterproof. It is therefore suitable for the bathroom, shower, and travel, where glass would be impractical.
White opaque material conceals the contents and limits light exposure. The bottle is supplied without a closure, so the dispensing method can be chosen based on the product's consistency. The packaging is suitable for contact with cosmetics as well as direct contact with food, making it usable for cold-filled food products as well.
Why choose a white PET bottle
- Safe handling – plastic will not shatter if dropped, which matters for products used with wet hands or intended for children.
- Low weight – a lightweight container simplifies packing and shipping finished products and does not weigh down a travel cosmetics bag.
- Uniform appearance – the opaque wall conceals natural colour variations between individual batches.
- Neutral background for labels – on a white surface, both coloured and transparent labels stand out without the product's colour showing through.
- Rigid shape – PET is stiffer than soft plastics; the bottle holds its shape and yields only slightly when squeezed. This should be taken into account when choosing a closure for thicker products.
Suitable products
A volume of 150 ml corresponds to the standard size for everyday-use products. The bottle is suitable for rinse-off products (shampoo, shower gel, liquid soap, conditioner), leave-on emulsions of a liquid consistency (body lotion, after-sun milk), and water-based products such as tonics, hydrolates, micellar waters, and hair sprays. The bottle with a narrow neck is not suitable for thick creams, masks, or balms — these are better filled into a jar.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is somewhat larger. This difference serves as a reserve for the pump or spray tube and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes.
Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling it all the way to the neck will cause the contents to be pushed out when fitting a pump or sprayer, soiling the thread and the label.
Choosing a closure
Closures with the same neck type as listed in the product specifications, as well as ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations, are available from Handymade. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying leak-tightness, dispensing performance, and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation. Simply fill one bottle and leave it on its side for a few days.
What to know before filling
Before first use, wash the bottle with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, and sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Then leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water inside the bottle would unnecessarily burden the product's preservative system.
PET cannot withstand high temperatures. Do not boil the bottle, sterilise it in an oven, or fill it with hot contents, as it will deform. Allow the product to cool to near room temperature before filling.
Common cosmetic formulations, including products containing oils, surfactants, and alcohol, can be filled into PET. Caution is warranted with undiluted essential oils, strong solvents, and strongly alkaline solutions, which may degrade the plastic over time. Glass is more suitable for their long-term storage.
The white bottle does not show the fill level or the appearance of the contents. It is therefore worth measuring the dose in advance or filling by weight. Dimensions needed for label design are listed in the product specifications. An empty bottle should be sorted into plastic waste.
