Product description

A glass roll-on with a capacity of 5 ml is designed for precise, targeted application of liquid cosmetic preparations directly onto the skin, without dripping and without finger contact. The set consists of a clear glass bottle, a steel ball and a black screw cap. The small volume is well suited to pocket-size packaging, samples and preparations that are applied in small amounts.

Clear glass shows both the colour and the remaining quantity of the contents. The metal ball glides smoothly across the skin and feels pleasantly cool on contact, which is particularly appreciated in preparations for the eye area and temples.

What products is the roll-on suitable for

  • Oil perfumes and fragrance blends – the ball deposits a thin film on the wrist or neck, so the concentrated scent is dispensed economically.
  • Essential oil blends in a carrier oil – aromatherapy roll-ons for the temples, wrists or neck; always diluted blends, never pure essential oils.
  • Eye area serums – both oil-based and light aqueous serums, which the ball applies without pulling the skin.
  • Cuticle and lip oils – a small application area where a single roll of the ball is sufficient.

How the set dispenses and seals

The ball sits in the neck of the bottle and, as it moves across the skin, draws up a thin layer of the contents. The amount dispensed depends on the viscosity of the preparation:

  • Light oils and lightweight serums apply evenly.
  • Very thin aqueous or alcoholic liquids flow more quickly and may deposit more product than needed with a faster stroke.
  • Thick gels, emulsions and preparations containing solid particles will slow down or block the ball.

The cap screws onto the bottle thread. When tightened, it seals the bottle and protects the ball from dust and contaminants.

Before filling a larger batch, it is worth filling one unit and carrying it in a bag for a few days. This will reveal whether the ball rolls smoothly, whether the preparation leaks, and whether the dose meets expectations.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is intended to hold during normal filling. The total brim-full volume is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference serves as a buffer: the ball, once pressed into the neck, takes up part of the space, and the contents expand slightly at higher temperatures. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise the contents will overflow when the ball is inserted.

What to know before filling

  • Preparation – wash the bottle, ball and cap before first use, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water reduces the stability of oil-based preparations.
  • Filling – a small funnel or syringe helps with the narrow neck. The ball is inserted only after filling and pressed into the neck with even pressure.
  • Aqueous and acidic contents – with a steel ball we recommend verifying through a long-term test that neither the appearance of the metal nor the preparation changes.
  • Label – the cylindrical body has a small circumference; the dimensions needed for label design can be found in the product specifications.
  • Intended use – all parts of the set are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is intended for cosmetic use.
  • Sorting – separate the glass bottle, steel ball and plastic cap before disposal.

Clear glass provides no protection against light. Preparations containing vegetable oils prone to oxidation, essential oils or sensitive active ingredients should be stored in a box, pouch or drawer, not on a windowsill.

Separate bottles, balls and caps with the same neck type are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dosage with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 5 ml glass roll-on used for?
The 5 ml glass roll-on is used for targeted application of liquid cosmetics directly onto the skin. The most common uses are oil perfumes, diluted essential oil blends, eye area serums and cuticle oils. The ball deposits a thin layer, so the preparation is dispensed economically and without finger contact.
How is a glass roll-on with a metal ball filled?
A glass roll-on with a metal ball is filled without the ball in place, using a small funnel or syringe, and only up to the nominal volume. Once filled, the ball is placed in the neck and pressed in evenly, then the cap is screwed on. There must be free space in the neck, as the ball takes up part of the volume once inserted.
Does a clear glass roll-on protect the contents from light?
No, a clear glass roll-on does not protect the contents from light. Clear glass does, however, show the colour and level of the preparation. Blends containing essential oils, readily oxidising vegetable oils or sensitive active ingredients should therefore be stored away from light, for example in a box or pouch.
Is a glass roll-on with a metal ball suitable for aqueous and alcoholic preparations?
Yes, a glass roll-on with a metal ball can also be used for aqueous and alcoholic preparations, but this requires testing with the specific formulation. Very thin liquids pass through the ball faster than oils. A trial unit should be used to verify the seal, the amount of product dispensed, and whether prolonged contact changes the appearance of the steel ball or the preparation.
Can the 5 ml glass roll-on be reused?
Yes, the 5 ml glass roll-on can be refilled after thorough washing, disinfecting and drying the bottle. The condition of the ball is decisive: if it is damaged during removal or does not sit firmly in the neck once reinserted, it should be replaced with a new one. When changing the scent or type of preparation, any residue of the original contents should also be removed from the cap.
