Product description
Inner liner made of polypropylene separates the surface of a cream, body butter or balm from the lid. It is placed into a glass jar with a 56 mm neck and a nominal volume of 100 ml directly onto the filled contents. It keeps the product surface clean until first use, reduces contact with air, and during transport prevents the contents from reaching the thread and contaminating the closure. When the customer unscrews the lid, they see a flat, clean cover rather than the cream itself, so the open jar looks neat. The liner is particularly suitable for creams, balms, body butters, masks and pastes filled into a glass jar of this size.
What the liner solves in the jar
- Hygienic barrier – until first opening, the cream surface does not touch the lid or the air in the upper part of the jar, and remains smooth and clean.
- Protection during transport – when tilted or shaken, the contents do not reach the thread; the lid does not stick and the jar can be opened without mess.
- Reduced air contact – the liner sits directly on the product and reduces the surface area exposed to air in the upper part of the packaging. This is not an airtight seal, but a practical measure to limit surface drying and crust formation.
- Clean closure – for runnier creams or butters that soften in the heat, the liner catches the contents before they reach the inside of the lid.
- Neat appearance – the finished product looks complete even when made by hand in small batches.
How to use the liner
Fill the jar to the nominal volume, allow the contents to settle or solidify, and place the liner on the surface. A gentle press to seat it against the cream is sufficient — there is no need to push it deeper. Then screw the lid onto the jar. For butters and balms that are poured while hot, fit the liner only after the contents have cooled completely; otherwise moisture condenses on its underside and the product surface becomes deformed.
This is where the difference between nominal and total jar volume matters. Nominal volume is the quantity the packaging is designed for under normal filling. Total brim volume is the physical capacity up to the neck. The space between them is a reserve for the liner, the lid, and minor expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If the jar is filled to the brim, the liner has nowhere to seat and will force the contents towards the thread when closing.
Fill the jar to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The space above the contents is intended for the liner and the lid. Overfilling causes cream to be pushed onto the thread and renders the liner ineffective.
The liner is intended for contact with cosmetic products, including creams, butters, balms and water-based emulsions. For products with a high proportion of essential oils or containing solvents, we recommend verifying the liner's behaviour with the specific formulation by a short test in a finished jar at normal storage temperature.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – we recommend washing the liners, sanitising them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing them to dry completely. Fit them with clean hands or tweezers.
- Reuse – when making products for personal use, the liner can be washed and reused. For products intended for sale, we recommend using a new liner each time.
- Does not replace preservation or sealing – the liner reduces contact with air and contamination, but it is not a jar seal and does not affect the microbiological stability of the product. The preservation system for water-based products must be designed independently of the liner.
- Suitability for cosmetics – the liner is intended for direct contact with cosmetic products and meets the requirements for cosmetic packaging materials.
- Combination with jar and lid – the liner is designed for a glass jar with a 56 mm neck. Suitable jars, lids and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, check that the liner seats properly on the contents in the specific jar and that the lid screws on without resistance.
- Recycling – the liner is made of polypropylene; when disposing of the packaging, separate it from the glass jar and sort it with plastics.
Fit the liner only onto contents that have cooled and solidified completely. On a warm product, moisture condenses beneath the liner, which may promote microbial growth in leave-on creams.
