Product description

A lightweight PET bottle in a dropper bottle shape for 50 ml of liquid and semi-liquid preparations dispensed in small amounts. The white material limits light exposure to the contents, which is beneficial for plant oils, oil serums, tinctures and hydrolats with sensitive ingredients. The narrow neck makes dispensing easier, so the bottle is suitable for samples, travel packaging and products consumed gradually.

The packaging is suitable for contact with cosmetics and for direct food contact, making it useful for homemade herbal oils, syrups, extracts or kitchen tinctures as well. Dropper bottle is the name of the bottle shape, not a designation for a specific content.

What the bottle is suitable for

  • Oil serums and body oils – the white material slows down light-induced changes in oils, and the narrow neck dispenses drop by drop or in a thin stream.
  • Tonics, hydrolats and facial waters – the smaller volume allows you to keep open only as much as is quickly consumed.
  • Tinctures and alcoholic extracts – PET tolerates alcohol at typical tincture concentrations; for long-term storage, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the specific extract.
  • Travel and sample packaging – the bottle is lightweight and shatterproof, making it more practical than glass in a cosmetic bag.
  • Liquid soaps and shampoos in small packaging – thin to medium-viscosity preparations fill through the neck without difficulty; very thick creams are harder to dispense through the narrow opening.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for during standard filling. The total volume to the brim is slightly larger, as headspace is left above the fill level for the cap or dropper and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the neck. When used with a dropper, keep in mind that the dropper tube will take up part of the headspace.

Before first use, rinse the bottle, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water in an oil-based or anhydrous product increases the risk of microbial contamination.

Caps and combinations

The bottle has a neck with the thread type stated in the specifications. Caps, droppers and sprayers with the same neck type, as well as ready-made bottle + cap combinations, are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend checking leak-tightness, dispensing comfort and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation, especially with thin oils and alcohol-based preparations, which are more prone to leaking.

What is good to know

PET and essential oils. PET is resistant to common cosmetic ingredients but not to aggressive chemicals. Concentrated essential oils, citrus terpenes, strong solvents and fragrance compositions at high concentrations can soften or cloud the plastic over time, or leave a scent that carries over into the next contents. The bottle is therefore suitable for finished preparations with standard fragrance dosing, not undiluted essential oils.

Heat. PET is not designed for hot-fill applications. Allow emulsions, liquid soaps and syrups to cool to room temperature before filling; otherwise the bottle may deform and the cap may no longer seal.

Repeated use. The bottle can be reused provided it is thoroughly washed, disinfected and dried. When switching from an oil-based to a water-based content, remove any oily film that could compromise the preservation of the new preparation. Do not reuse a bottle that has become soft, cloudy or deformed.

Labelling. The smooth cylindrical body takes labels well. A paper label can become greasy on an oil-based product, so consider a film or laminated label instead.

Recycling. The bottle is made from PET; once emptied and rinsed, it belongs in plastic waste collection.

The white material reduces light transmission, but do not leave the bottle in direct sunlight or near a heat source for extended periods. Heat accelerates oil oxidation regardless of how much light reaches the contents.

Frequently asked questions

Does a white plastic dropper bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, white PET limits light exposure to the contents. Compared to a clear container, it slows down light-induced changes in oils, vitamins and plant extracts. It does not replace protection against heat, however – store the bottle away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Is the 50 ml plastic dropper bottle suitable for essential oils?
The PET bottle is not suitable for undiluted essential oils. Concentrated essential oils and citrus terpenes can damage the plastic over time or permeate it and leave behind a scent. Finished preparations with a standard fragrance content, such as body oils or tonics, can be stored in it.
Can I fill a PET dropper bottle with an alcoholic tincture?
Yes, alcohol at typical tincture concentrations does not harm PET. At very high alcohol concentrations or with long-term storage, check whether the contents become cloudy and the cap still seals. Alcohol escapes around threads more readily than water, so it is worth verifying the seal.
How much can actually be filled into the 50 ml dropper bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Headspace is left above the fill level for the cap or dropper and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If filled right to the neck, the cap is harder to seat and the contents may leak when screwing it on.
Is the white plastic dropper bottle also suitable for food?
Yes, the packaging is suitable for direct contact with both food and cosmetics. It is therefore also suitable for homemade herbal oils, syrups, extracts or kitchen tinctures. Fill it only after the contents have cooled, as PET is not designed for hot filling.
