Product description

Plastic bottle (vial), white, 10 ml

A small plastic PET vial for small quantities of concentrated or precious formulations. With a capacity of 10 ml, it is practical for serums, oil blends, tinctures, essences, samples and travel sizes — anywhere you work with just a few millilitres and a larger pack makes no sense. The white, opaque material also limits light exposure to the contents, which is appreciated with ingredients that are more sensitive to light.

PET is lightweight and shatterproof, so the vial handles everyday handling, shipping and travel better than glass. It is therefore well suited for packaging that goes through the post or is carried in a bag.

Key properties

  • Small volume – suitable for concentrated actives, samples and travel sizes where waste is not worthwhile.
  • White opaque PET – limits light exposure to the contents and presents a clean, neutral appearance under a label.
  • Lightweight and shatterproof material – practical for shipping, dispatch and carrying around.
  • Dual suitability – the material is approved for contact with cosmetics and for direct food contact.

Nominal and total volume

With small containers it is worth distinguishing two volumes. The nominal volume is the volume for which the vial is intended under normal filling — i.e. the quantity you actually dispense into it. The total brim-full volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger.

The difference between them is an intentional headspace for the closure or dropper insert and for slight expansion of the contents. Fill the vial to the nominal volume, not right to the brim — otherwise there is a risk of overflow when fitting the closure.

Suitability for cosmetics and food

The vial material is suitable for contact with cosmetic products and meets the relevant regulatory requirements. The packaging is also approved for direct food contact, so it can be used not only for cosmetics but also for home-made oils, aromatic essences or herbal extracts in small quantities.

Closure and neck

The vial has a standardised neck type stated in the specifications, so closures with the same thread fit it. Closures with the same neck type and ready-made packaging-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. If you are assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing behaviour and compatibility of the container with your specific formulation in advance.

What to know when using

Before the first fill, wash the vial, sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry thoroughly — especially for leave-on products and preservative-free formulations.

PET is more sensitive to certain solvents and higher concentrations of essential oils. With purely oil-based blends that have a high proportion of essential oils, or with alcohol-based formulations, we recommend checking material compatibility with the contents in advance.

PET is recyclable; once emptied and rinsed, it belongs in the plastics recycling stream.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 10 ml plastic vial suitable for?
It is suitable for small quantities of concentrated formulations — serums, oil blends, tinctures, essences, samples and travel sizes. The small volume is practical wherever you work with just a few millilitres and a larger pack would lead to waste or unnecessary air exposure to the contents.
Does the white vial protect the contents from light?
Partially, yes. White opaque PET limits light exposure to the contents, providing better protection than a clear container. For ingredients that are particularly sensitive to light, we recommend additionally storing the packaging away from direct sunlight.
Is the vial suitable for food?
Yes. The material is approved for direct food contact, so it can also be used for home-made oils, aromatic essences or herbal extracts. It is also suitable for contact with cosmetic products, making it useful for both purposes.
How much can actually be filled into the vial?
The vial is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is slightly larger, but this difference is the headspace for the closure or dropper insert and for expansion of the contents. Filling to the brim would cause overflow when fitting the closure.
Can the plastic vial be reused?
Yes, with proper preparation. Before reuse, wash it, sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry. With more demanding oil-based or alcohol-based contents, bear in mind that PET may gradually absorb residual scent from the previous contents.
Which closure fits the vial?
Closures with the same neck type as stated in the specifications fit it. Both closures and ready-made packaging-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing behaviour with your specific formulation.
