Product description
Plastic lid for jar 70/400, black with induction liner
Black screw-on lid made of polypropylene for jars with a 70 neck thread, fitted with an induction sealing liner. Suitable wherever the contents need to be demonstrably unopened and protected against leakage at the point of sale – for creams, body butters, scrubs, masks, balms or powdered products such as bath salts or dusting powders. The opaque black colour pairs well with both dark and light-coloured jars.
The lid is certified for contact with cosmetics and is approved for direct contact with food, making it suitable for home-made jams, honey, spices, dried herbs or syrups.
How the induction liner works
The induction liner is an aluminium membrane placed inside the lid. Once the jar is filled and screwed shut, it is placed in an induction sealing device, which heats the membrane without direct contact and seals it onto the jar neck. After unscrewing, a foil remains on the neck for the customer to peel off – it is a visible tamper-evident guarantee and at the same time a barrier against leakage during transport.
Without induction sealing, the liner remains loosely inserted in the lid. The lid can still be used that way, but in that case sealing is provided by the thread alone, not the membrane. For small-scale handmade production, consider whether you will use an induction sealer; for larger runs and mail-order sales, a sealed membrane is a significant advantage.
Always test the induction seal in advance on the specific jar you intend to use. The result depends on the material and flatness of the neck, the power of the device and the exposure time. The membrane must adhere all the way around after sealing – check this on several pieces before filling a batch.
Key benefits
- Leakage protection – the sealed membrane keeps the contents inside the jar even when tipped over or shaken during transport.
- Tamper evidence – the customer can see that nobody has opened the product before them, which is an important element of trust for both cosmetics and food.
- One thread, multiple jars – the lid fits all jars with the same neck type regardless of their volume, so it can be used across an entire product line.
- Lightweight and unbreakable – polypropylene withstands normal handling, drops and moisture, which is an advantage for both storage and dispatch.
- Cosmetic and food-grade quality – one type of lid covers both cosmetic and food products.
Use with Handymade jars
The lid is designed for jars with the neck type stated in the parameters. Jars with the same neck and ready-made jar + lid combinations are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, thread tightening and behaviour of the induction membrane with the specific jar and specific formulation.
With thick creams and body butters, take care that no product is left on the jar neck during filling – a contaminated neck impairs the membrane seal. Wipe the neck before fitting the lid.
Good to know
- Preparation before first use – before filling, blow out or rinse the lids, or disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Do not remove the liner during this process.
- Oils and solvents – polypropylene tolerates standard cosmetic bases, oils and aqueous phases. At high concentrations of essential oils or solvents, check whether the surface of the lid or the odour changes.
- Hot filling – close the jar only after the contents have cooled. A hot product creates steam under the lid, which can impair membrane sealing and later condense.
- Reuse – the lid itself can be washed and reused, but the induction membrane is single-use. Once it has been peeled off, the jar is sealed by the thread alone.
- Storage – store lids in a dry and clean environment to prevent dust or moisture from settling on the liner.
- Recycling – the lid belongs with plastics; the peeled-off aluminium membrane should be separated and sorted separately.
If you want to make opening easier for the customer, leave a small gap below the neck when filling. After sealing, it is easier to grip the membrane by its edge without touching the product.
