Product description

Sealing liners close the jar so the contents cannot spill during shipping and so the customer can see at a glance that nobody has opened the product before them. They are inserted into the jar lid and, once tightened for the first time, bond to the neck. The liner with a diameter of 45 mm fits lids with the same neck diameter and is suitable for home production as well as small cosmetic batches intended for sale.

Liners are sold individually, so you can buy exactly as many as the number of jars you are filling.

How a sealing liner works

The liner has a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on one side. When the lid is screwed on, it is pressed against the rim of the neck and stays bonded once tightened. When the customer unscrews the lid, the liner remains on the jar and can only be removed by hand. This gives it three practical properties:

  • Spill protection – the sealed neck prevents the contents from leaking between the lid and the jar during shipping.
  • First-opening indicator – an intact liner shows that the contents have not been opened since filling, which is an important trust signal when selling cosmetics.
  • Reduced air exposure – while the liner is on the neck, the contents do not come into contact with the air inside the lid, which slows down surface drying of creams and butters.

This is not an airtight seal, nor a substitute for preservation. The liner protects the contents mechanically during transport and storage until first opening. Once removed, the jar is closed again with the standard lid.

Use during packaging

Place the liner adhesive-side down into a clean lid, fill the jar to the nominal volume, and tighten the lid firmly. Do not fill the jar to the brim – the space between the product level and the neck is needed for the liner to seat on a dry rim. The adhesive layer requires pressure, so tighten the lid firmly and evenly. Adhesion depends on how clean and smooth the jar neck is.

The neck rim must be dry and free of product residue before sealing. Cream or oil caught on the rim significantly reduces adhesion and the liner will not bond evenly.

Liners perform best with creams, butters, balms, bath salts, powders, and firmer products. For liquid or heavily oily contents, or products with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend testing adhesion and seal integrity on a few pieces beforehand, as oily components can gradually loosen the adhesive layer.

Suitable for products such as

  • Face and body creams in jars – spill protection during shipping.
  • Body butters and balms – the liner reduces surface drying before the product reaches the customer.
  • Bath salts and powders, dry clay masks – prevents spilling and moisture ingress during transport.
  • Samples and travel sizes – small jars open easily during shipping; the liner solves this without additional packaging.

Good to know

  • Single use – once peeled from the neck, the liner cannot be reused. A new liner must be inserted each time the jar is refilled.
  • Jar material – the adhesive bonds to glass and standard plastics, but plastics with a smooth or greasy surface may hold less securely. When using a new jar type for the first time, we recommend testing on a few pieces.
  • Filling temperature – for products filled warm (butters, balms), allow the contents to cool and solidify before closing. Warm contents release vapour that condenses on the liner and reduces adhesion.
  • Liner cleanliness – store liners in a dry, clean place before use so the adhesive layer does not pick up dust.

For larger batches, prepare the lids with liners in advance and fill the jars afterwards. The adhesive side then has no contact with hands or product, and sealing is faster.

Liners are intended for cosmetic packaging. Lids and jars with the same neck type are available in the Handymade range; for custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

How are pressure-sensitive sealing liners for jars used?
Place the liner adhesive-side down into the lid, fill the jar, and tighten the lid firmly. The pressure of screwing on the lid bonds the liner to the neck, and on first opening it stays on the jar. The neck rim must be dry and clean; otherwise the adhesive layer will not hold around the full circumference.
Can sealing liners for jars be reused?
No, liners are intended for single use. Once peeled from the neck, the adhesive no longer holds and the liner loses its function. A new liner should be inserted each time the jar is refilled. The lid and jar can continue to be used normally after washing.
Are sealing liners for jars suitable for oily products?
For oily products, we recommend testing the seal on a few pieces first. Liners perform best with creams, butters, balms, and dry products. Liquid oils or contents with a higher proportion of essential oils may gradually weaken the adhesive layer, and the liner may not hold evenly around the full neck circumference.
Does a sealing liner replace preservation or an airtight seal?
No, the liner protects the contents mechanically against spilling and indicates first opening; it is not an airtight or vacuum seal. It limits air exposure at the product surface until first opening, but water-based products in jars still require a suitable preservation system and standard hygiene during filling.
Which jars are compatible with the 45 mm sealing liner?
The liner fits lids with a neck diameter of 45 mm. A different size will either not cover the full rim or will not fit inside the lid. The adhesive bonds to glass and standard plastics; adhesion may be weaker on smooth plastic necks. Before a larger run, it is advisable to test a few pieces with the specific jar and product.
