Product description

Airless bottle, transparent, black top 30 ml is a complete set of a transparent bottle with a black base and a black top with a pump that dispenses the contents without air exposure. It is suitable for serums, light creams, facial emulsions and eye creams with active ingredients sensitive to oxidation, where it matters that the remaining contents do not come into contact with air or fingers. The nominal volume of 30 ml corresponds to the typical size of a facial serum or cream for several weeks of use.

The clear body of the bottle reveals the colour and the remaining amount of contents. The black base and top give the packaging a uniform appearance that works well with labels and simple minimalist branding. The complete set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not intended for contact with food.

How an airless bottle works

The key element is the piston at the bottom of the bottle, which moves slightly upward with each press of the pump and pushes the contents towards the opening. There is no dip tube in the packaging, so no air pocket forms above the surface and the contents do not flow back into the bottle. The product is therefore never exposed to air during use, which slows the oxidation of sensitive ingredients and reduces the risk of contamination from the surroundings or fingers.

This also provides a practical advantage: the bottle dispenses in any position, even upside down, and the contents are used up almost completely. Each press releases the same small dose, so the customer uses exactly as much product as needed. The exact dose size is listed in the specifications.

Suitable for products such as

  • Serums with vitamin C, retinol or peptides – active ingredients prone to oxidation remain in the packaging without air exposure. The clear body does not block light, however, so it is advisable to store such products away from direct light or in a cardboard box.
  • Light to medium-density creams and emulsions – the pump reliably dispenses textures that can be pressed out without much force. For thicker products, the recommendation in the filling section applies.
  • Eye creams and décolleté preparations – the small dose per press corresponds to the amount typically applied to these areas.
  • Products with low preservative content – limited air exposure and no finger contact with the contents help maintain microbiological stability, but do not replace preservation itself.

Filling and first use

The bottle is filled through the neck after unscrewing the top. The piston is in the bottom position and the contents are poured or pressed directly onto it. For thin products, simply pouring is sufficient; for thicker emulsions it is better to fill without air bubbles and let them rise by gently tapping the bottle on a surface. Otherwise it takes longer for the pump to start dispensing.

The difference between the nominal and total volume is important for an airless bottle. The nominal volume is the amount for which the packaging is designed under normal filling conditions; the total brim volume is the physical space up to the neck. The headspace above the nominal volume belongs to the top with the pump and the air that must be displaced when the top is fitted. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow around the thread when the top is tightened.

After fitting the top, press the pump several times in a row until it begins to dispense the contents. The first presses only push out the air from the space above the piston and are normal — this is not a defect of the packaging.

Before filling for the first time, we recommend rinsing both the bottle and the top, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing them to dry completely. Any moisture inside the packaging would otherwise get into the product.

Good to know

The bottle body is made of SAN plastic, which is clear and rigid, feels like glass to the touch, and is break-resistant. The top combines plastic with an aluminium element in a silver shade. Both parts are intended for cosmetic formulations on both water-based and emulsion bases.

SAN is not universally resistant to solvents. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or esters, we recommend first filling one bottle and monitoring for several weeks to check whether the material becomes cloudy, softens, or cracks at the thread.

The viscosity of the formulation determines how the pump works. Very thin products such as tonics or pure oils may drip from the opening on their own; very thick balms and butters, on the other hand, the pump cannot draw up and the piston stalls. Textures that spread easily work best — serums with a slightly increased viscosity and medium-density creams. It is advisable to test the behaviour of a specific formulation with one filled bottle.

Reuse is possible after thorough washing and returning the piston to the bottom position with gentle pressure from above through the neck. The pump mechanism cannot be disassembled and cleaned completely, however, so a new top is recommended when changing products or when using products sensitive to contamination.

The top is designed for both the 30 ml and 50 ml airless bottle with the same neck type. Complete sets as well as individual parts are available from Handymade. When combining parts yourself, we recommend verifying the seal, dosage and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

When empty, the bottle belongs in sorted plastic waste. The top also contains an aluminium element; if it can be separated, it should be sorted separately.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 30 ml airless bottle suitable for?
The 30 ml airless bottle is suitable for serums, light creams and emulsions with active ingredients sensitive to air, such as vitamin C, retinol or peptides. The piston at the bottom of the bottle pushes the contents towards the opening without drawing air back in, so the product is not exposed to air and no undispensable residue remains.
Why does the airless pump not dispense at first?
After filling, the pump first pushes out the air from the space above the piston, and the contents only appear after several presses. This is a normal priming of the mechanism, not a defect. If the contents do not appear even after ten presses, there is likely a larger air bubble in the bottle or the product is too thick for the piston to push it out.
Can the airless bottle be filled with pure oil or a toner?
Thin products can be filled into an airless bottle, but after pressing they may drip from the opening on their own, as the pump is designed for slightly viscous textures. A dropper bottle or a spray is therefore recommended for oils and toners instead. If you still wish to dispense a thin product with a pump, we recommend testing with one bottle and checking the behaviour.
Is the transparent airless bottle suitable for light-sensitive products?
The transparent bottle protects the contents from air, not from light. For serums with vitamin C, retinol or other light-sensitive ingredients, we therefore recommend storing the bottle away from direct sunlight or selling it in a cardboard box. The clear body has another advantage: the customer can see the colour of the product and how much remains.
How much can be filled into the 30 ml airless bottle?
The bottle is filled with 30 ml, which is its nominal volume. The total brim volume is slightly larger, but this headspace is required by the top with the pump and the air that is displaced when the top is fitted. A bottle filled right to the brim will overflow around the thread when the top is tightened, so it is not filled to the brim.
Can the airless bottle be reused?
The airless bottle can be reused if, after emptying, it is thoroughly washed, disinfected, and the piston is returned to the bottom position with gentle pressure through the neck. The pump mechanism cannot be fully disassembled and cleaned, however, so when changing products or using formulations sensitive to microbiological contamination, we recommend using a new top.
