Product description
Aluminium bottle 200 ml with a 24/410 neck finish is designed for filling cosmetic products that require protection from light and oxidation. Metal blocks light entirely, making it particularly suitable for body, massage and hair oils, oil serums, or blends containing essential oils. It is lightweight and will not shatter if dropped, so it holds up on the road, in the bathroom or in a sports bag where glass would be a hazard.
Suitability for contact with cosmetics is confirmed by technical documentation and a declaration available on the product page.
Key benefits
- Complete light protection – unlike amber or blue glass, which still lets some light through, metal blocks it entirely. This slows the oxidation of oils, vitamins and fragrance components.
- Low weight and shatter resistance – the bottle is significantly lighter than a glass one of the same volume and will not shatter if dropped. It can dent under a strong impact, however.
- Impermeability – aluminium does not allow fragrance components or moisture to pass through, so the contents retain their scent longer and do not dry out.
- 24/410 neck finish – a widely used neck size, which means a broad range of caps, pumps and sprayers is available.
- Recyclability – simply rinse the empty bottle and place it in metal recycling. Aluminium is recycled without any loss of material quality.
Suitable for products such as
- Body, massage and hair oils – oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids oxidise faster in light; in aluminium they last longer.
- Oil serums and cleansing oils – the 200 ml volume suits products used frequently.
- Shampoos, shower gels and body lotions – thicker textures are dispensed easily with a pump.
- Hair tonics and body sprays – using a sprayer with the same neck finish.
Aqueous, acidic or alkaline formulations call for special care, which we explain below.
Nominal and total volume
For every container we distinguish two figures. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling conditions, and this is the figure that belongs on the label. The total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck. The difference between them is the headspace for the cap, pump or sprayer that extends inside the bottle, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Both values are listed in the product specifications.
Good to know
Compatibility of the contents with aluminium. Aluminium is a metal that can react with water, acids, bases and salts. Anhydrous oil-based products are unproblematic in this regard. With aqueous formulations (tonics, shampoos, emulsions), especially those with a pH below 5 or above 8 and containing electrolytes, we recommend testing the behaviour of the specific formula in the bottle beforehand.
Before filling a full batch, fill one bottle with the finished formulation and leave it for several weeks at both ambient and elevated temperature. Monitor any change in colour, scent, turbidity, or darkening of the inner surface. This applies especially to aqueous products and formulations containing salts or citric acid.
Preparation before first filling. Rinse the bottle with clean water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely, neck down. Residual moisture in an oil-based product could cause cloudiness or promote microbial growth.
Aluminium conducts heat well. With hot contents the bottle heats up immediately, creating a burn risk during handling. Fill products after they have cooled to room temperature; this also preserves fragrance components and reduces vapour pressure inside the sealed bottle.
Mechanical durability. The bottle will not shatter, but the thin wall can dent if dropped or squeezed. A dent does not affect the seal, but it changes the appearance and can knock the neck out of alignment, which impairs how the closure seats. Do not place heavy objects on the bottle during storage.
Closures. Caps, pumps and sprayers with a 24/410 neck finish, as well as ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing performance with the specific formulation, particularly with thicker textures or oils that may soften the gasket.
Appearance and labelling. The bottle is supplied in the natural silver colour of aluminium, which looks clean and serves as a neutral base for a coloured label or a minimalist design alike. The smooth cylindrical surface labels well — both self-adhesive labels and direct printing adhere reliably. Degrease the surface before applying a label.
