Product description
Aluminium bottle with a capacity of 225 ml is a lightweight, unbreakable and completely opaque packaging for cosmetics and technical preparations. The metal wall blocks light, protecting contents sensitive to oxidation and UV radiation better than clear glass or plastic. It is particularly suitable for body and massage oils, hair oils, body lotions, shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps — products dispensed with a pump or a cap on a 24/410 neck.
The silver surface has a neutral appearance and accepts labels or printing well, making the bottle suitable for small batches and professional production alike. Aluminium is also significantly lighter than glass, reducing shipping costs and making it easier to use while travelling or in the shower, where glass would pose a risk.
Why choose aluminium
- Light protection – the bottle wall is opaque, protecting the contents from UV and visible light, which slows oxidation of oils and fading of colorants.
- Unbreakable and lightweight – the bottle will not shatter if dropped, withstands transport and daily bathroom use, and weighs a fraction of a comparable glass bottle.
- 24/410 neck – a standard thread size compatible with a wide range of dispensing closures, from pumps to sprayers.
- Cosmetic and technical grade – the packaging is suitable for cosmetic products and can equally be used for technical liquids such as wood or leather conditioning oils.
- Recyclability – aluminium is one of the most recyclable packaging materials and goes into metal collection once empty.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides clearance for the dip tube of a pump or sprayer and for thermal expansion of the contents. The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Overfilling risks forcing out the contents when fitting the closure and compromises the seal.
What the bottle is suitable for
Oil-based and anhydrous products are the most suitable contents for aluminium: body and massage oils, oil serums, hair oils, oil-based cleansers or liquid oil blends for manufacturing. Aluminium protects them from light and does not affect their scent.
Emulsions and surfactant-based products such as body lotions, shampoos, conditioners and shower gels are dispensed with a pump or an open cap. The bottle is a practical and lightweight packaging option for shower use.
Water-based and alcohol-based products (tonics, hydrolats, disinfectant solutions, facial mists) are possible, but compatibility must be verified. Information about the internal surface treatment of the bottle is not available, and bare aluminium may react with aqueous, acidic or strongly alkaline formulations. Before filling a larger batch, we recommend a trial fill and inspection of both the contents and the internal surface after several weeks.
Aluminium is sensitive to low and high pH and to salts. For aqueous formulations with a pH outside the neutral range, products with a higher electrolyte content or products containing chelating agents, a stability test in the bottle is required. Otherwise there is a risk of discolouration of the contents, a metallic taste or damage to the internal wall.
Good to know
Before the first fill, rinse the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely with the neck facing down. The bottle is suitable for repeated use as long as the internal surface is free of scratches, discolouration or corrosion spots. The thin aluminium wall can be dented or deformed, so do not squeeze the bottle like a plastic tube. Dispense the contents using the closure. When tightening the closure, apply only moderate force to avoid damaging the thread.
Aluminium conducts heat, so the bottle quickly takes on the temperature of its contents when filled hot. Fill emulsions and oils cooled, also to account for thermal expansion and closure sealing. The packaging is not intended for pressurised contents or carbonated liquids.
The smooth cylindrical surface accepts self-adhesive labels and direct printing. On a metal surface, we recommend adhesives designed for metal, or a clear film that preserves the silver background as a design element.
The packaging is suitable for contact with cosmetic products; a declaration of conformity is available with the product. Food use is not declared, so the bottle is not intended for food or beverages.
Closures with a 24/410 neck and ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available from Handymade. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing performance and closure behaviour with the specific formulation, particularly with thicker emulsions.
