Aluminium jar with lid 60 ml
Aluminium jar with screw lid with a nominal volume of 60 ml is a lightweight and shatter-proof container for solid and semi-solid cosmetic products. Aluminium blocks light, protecting the contents from light exposure, and withstands everyday handling during transport and in the bathroom. The lid contains an EPE liner (expanded polyethylene) that, once tightened, improves the seal and slows down the drying of the contents.
The jar is best suited for anhydrous products: lip and body balms, ointments, solid perfumes and deodorants, pomades, hair or beard waxes, massage sticks, body butters, loose products (dry shampoos, body powders) or effervescent salts. The flat shape makes it easy to scoop out the contents with a finger or spatula, and labels adhere easily to the surface.

Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume for which the jar is designed under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity of the container up to the top edge and is slightly larger. The difference provides headspace for the lid with its liner and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The jar should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling right to the edge would cause the product to contact the liner, contaminate the thread and potentially leak when warmed. Practical use
For balms, ointments and solid perfumes, the molten mass is poured directly into the jar. Aluminium withstands the temperature of molten waxes and butters, but conducts heat well, so the container itself heats up quickly during filling. Pour the mass, allow it to set completely at room temperature, and only then screw on the lid. Otherwise, moisture condenses on the liner and inside the lid, and the surface of the product becomes uneven.
For loose and powder products, simply pour in the contents and level lightly. The foam liner prevents powder from escaping through the thread.
Aluminium without an inner protective coating can react with aqueous, acidic or alkaline formulations. We therefore recommend the jar primarily for anhydrous products. If you plan to fill a cream, gel or product with a lower pH, verify the behaviour of the packaging and formulation with a stability test before batch production.

Good to know
- Preparation before first fill – wash both the jar and the lid, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Let the foam liner dry thoroughly so that no moisture remains under the lid.
- Tightening the lid – hand-tighten only. Excessive force deforms the thin thread and the liner will eventually stop returning to its original shape.
- Essential oils and solvents – pure aluminium is not affected by essential oils, but the foam liner may soften over time at high concentrations. For solid perfumes with a high fragrance load, check the liner after a few weeks of storage.
- Labelling – both the flat surface of the lid and the circumference of the jar accept self-adhesive labels; label dimensions are listed in the product specifications. Aluminium is wear-resistant, but sharp objects will leave scratches.
- Re-use – after thorough washing and disinfection, the jar can be used again. Before refilling, check that the liner is not deformed or saturated.
If you are hot-filling several jars at once, arrange them on a flat tray and pour in a single batch. The same mass temperature and the same fill level will give the products a uniform surface with no sink marks in the centre.

Is the 60 ml aluminium jar suitable for a cream or other water-containing product?
Not without testing. Aluminium without an inner protective coating can react with water and with acidic or alkaline ingredients, which may manifest as a change in the colour of the contents or dulling of the metal. The jar is designed primarily for anhydrous products such as balms, ointments, solid perfumes and powders. If you want to fill an emulsion or gel, carry out a stability test in this container before batch production.
Can I pour hot balm into an aluminium jar?
Yes, aluminium withstands the temperature of molten waxes and vegetable butters and does not deform on cooling. However, the container heats up quickly, so handle it carefully and allow the contents to set completely at room temperature. Screw on the lid only after the product has cooled, otherwise moisture condenses underneath it.
Does an aluminium jar protect the contents from light?
Yes, aluminium is completely opaque to light, which is its main advantage over clear plastic and glass containers. Light accelerates oxidation of oils, butters and fragrance compounds, so an aluminium jar helps preserve the scent and colour of balms and solid perfumes for longer. Light protection, however, does not replace an antioxidant in the formulation.
How is an aluminium jar cleaned before first use?
Wash both the jar and the lid with warm water and a mild detergent, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to air-dry. Let the foam liner in the lid dry thoroughly so that no moisture remains under it. A dishwasher is not suitable; harsh detergents may dull the aluminium.

Because the nominal volume is smaller than the total volume to the brim, and the difference is an intentional headspace. It accommodates the lid liner and allows for expansion of the contents when warmed, for example in summer or in a bag. Filling to the edge would cause the product to touch the liner, contaminate the thread and potentially leak once the lid is tightened. Fill to the nominal volume stated in the specifications.
Can the 60 ml aluminium jar be reused?
Yes, after thorough washing and disinfection the jar can be refilled, as long as the thread is not deformed and the liner holds its shape. When reusing, also inspect the inside of the jar for dulling or scratches from a spatula.
