Product description
Aluminium jar with lid, black, 60 ml
The black aluminium jar with a volume of 60 ml is designed for thick and semi-solid cosmetic products: balms, ointments, solid deodorants, massage and body butters, hair waxes, pomades or creams with a denser consistency. It works equally well as a container for a small container candle. It comes with a screw-on lid, making it a complete packaging ready for filling.
Aluminium is opaque, so it protects the contents from light. This is beneficial for products containing vegetable oils, butters and essential oils, which deteriorate faster when exposed to light. Compared to glass, the packaging is lightweight and shatterproof, making it suitable for travel, handbags or sports balms.
Inner lining and what the jar is suitable for
The jar has an inner epoxy coating, so the contents do not come into direct contact with the aluminium and do not react with the metal. You are therefore not limited to anhydrous products — the coating also separates creams and emulsions with a water phase from the metal. The lid features a sealing insert made of EPE (expanded polyethylene) that seats on the neck and helps keep the packaging closed.
Based on the technical documentation, the packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products and complies with the relevant legislative requirements. Food contact suitability is not declared for this packaging — the jar is intended for cosmetics and technical products such as candles.
Before filling for the first time, wash the jar and lid, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. The same applies when reusing the jar.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the volume the jar is intended for during standard filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck, which is slightly larger. The difference provides a margin for the lid with its sealing insert and for the expansion of contents with temperature changes. Fill the jar to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Balms and butters poured while hot contract as they set — allow for a slightly lower level after cooling. Exact values for both volumes are listed in the product parameters.
Use for candles
The jar can be filled with soy, rapeseed or beeswax to make a small container candle. A wick with a tab is glued to the bottom, wax is poured at the temperature recommended by the wax manufacturer, and the candle is left to cool away from draughts. Choose the wick size according to the container diameter and wax type; for a new combination, a test burn is recommended.
The metal container heats up during burning. Place the candle on a heat-resistant surface and do not let it burn all the way to the bottom.
The same jar can be used for both balm and candles. For smaller production runs, one type of packaging is sufficient for two different products.
Good to know
- Hot filling – when pouring molten wax or the oil phase of a balm, the packaging heats up; handle with care. Attach the lid only after the contents have set, to prevent condensation on the insert.
- Seal integrity – the sealing insert holds thick and semi-solid contents. For thinner creams or liquid products, verify the seal behaviour with the specific formulation, especially before shipping.
- Reuse – once empty, the jar can be washed and refilled. The epoxy coating must remain intact, so avoid steel wool or abrasive cleaners.
