Product description
A glass jar, brown, with a white plastic lid, 5 ml is a small complete packaging and closure set intended for samples, testers and small quantities of thicker cosmetic preparations. Brown glass protects the contents from light, making it particularly suitable for balms, ointments, creams and concentrates with sensitive active ingredients, vegetable oils or butters. The white plastic lid with an insert closes the jar and makes repeated opening easy for everyday use.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The declaration of conformity is issued by Handymade as the manufacturer of the packaging.
What the jar is suitable for
The 5 ml volume is suitable for everything where a small amount is enough – a trial quantity, a sample with an order or a full product with low consumption.
- Samples and testers – of creams, butter balms or masks that you want to offer customers to try before purchasing a larger size.
- Eye and face creams with a higher proportion of active ingredients – small packaging is used up quickly, the contents are exposed to air for only a short time and dark glass slows down the degradation of light-sensitive components.
- Lip balms and solid perfumes – anhydrous preparations based on wax, butters and oils that are poured into the jar warm and once set are scooped out with a finger or spatula.
- Ointments and concentrated preparations – for example for specific areas of skin where only a small amount is applied.
- Recipe testing – when developing a formulation, a small jar is practical for comparing several variants side by side and monitoring stability over time.
The wide-neck jar is designed for thicker textures that are scooped, not poured. For liquid serums, tonics or oils, a dropper bottle or spray bottle is more suitable.
How to work with the set
The jar is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the packaging is designed under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference forms a reserve for the lid with insert and for potential expansion of the contents, for example with a change in temperature. If the jar is filled to the brim, the contents are pushed onto the thread and under the lid when closing, which impairs the seal and the appearance of the packaging.
The plastic lid screws onto the jar thread and is tightened by hand. The foam insert in the lid rests on the neck and improves the seal of the closure. When hot-filling anhydrous balms, allow the contents to set and cool completely before closing the jar to prevent moisture condensing under the lid.
Before first filling, wash the jar and lid, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual moisture in the packaging impairs the microbiological stability of aqueous creams in particular.
What is good to know
- Light protection – brown glass absorbs a portion of UV radiation and light that accelerates oxidation of oils and degradation of sensitive active ingredients. It does not replace antioxidants in the formulation or storage away from direct sunlight.
- Glass and temperature – the jar can withstand filling with warm anhydrous mixtures, but sudden temperature changes can damage the glass. Do not pour hot material into a cold jar; allow it to cool slightly or warm the jar beforehand.
- Compatibility with contents – glass is chemically resistant and suitable for aqueous, anhydrous and emulsion preparations. The plastic lid comes into contact with the contents only through the insert; for preparations with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, verify that the insert does not change in appearance or seal integrity.
- Reuse – the glass jar can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. For the lid, check that the insert is not damaged or stained from the previous contents.
- Labelling – there is space for a label on the smooth wall of the jar and on the lid. Exact dimensions for label design can be found in the product parameters.
- Recycling – glass goes into glass waste, the plastic lid into plastics. Disassemble the set before disposal.
The set is not approved for contact with food. It is therefore not intended for homemade syrups, kitchen oils or herbal extracts. Its use is cosmetic.
Closures with the same type of neck and other ready-made jar and lid combinations are available in the Handymade range. When making your own combination, we recommend testing the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.
