Product description

30 ml glass bottle made of frosted brown glass, designed for cosmetics that require protection from light. Brown glass transmits significantly less light than clear glass, slowing the oxidation of sensitive ingredients. The bottle is therefore best suited for facial serums, facial oils, essential oil blends and tinctures — concentrated preparations dosed by drops or in small quantities. It is also suitable for samples and travel-size versions of finished products.

According to the technical documentation, the packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the relevant regulatory requirements. The declaration is available in the product parameters.

Why choose frosted brown glass

  • Light protection – brown glass blocks a substantial portion of UV radiation. Oils, vitamin serums, plant extracts and essential oils will retain their scent, colour and efficacy for longer.
  • Chemical resistance of glass – glass does not react with essential oils, alcoholic extracts, or oil- or water-based formulations; it releases nothing into the contents and does not absorb scents. A single bottle can handle a wide range of formulations.
  • Frosted surface – does not slip in the hand, does not show fingerprints, and looks consistent even without a label. Print or a label on a matte base does not visually merge with the surface.
  • Small volume for concentrates – serums and active blends are used in small daily doses. A small container reduces the time the opened contents are exposed to air.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is intended for during standard filling, and this figure is what appears on the finished product label. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides headspace for a dropper or pump that extends into the bottle and for minor expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. With oils and alcoholic blends, always leave the headspace free — otherwise the cap will displace the contents when tightened. Both values are listed in the product parameters.

Closures and combinations

The bottle has a narrow neck with a thread whose type is specified in the product parameters. Closures with the same thread type — caps, droppers, pumps and sprayers — as well as complete bottle + closure combinations, are available from Handymade. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal integrity, dosing accuracy and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation. Thin oils and alcoholic solutions leak easily around a loose closure.

What to know when filling

Before first use, rinse the bottle with warm water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely, neck down. Residual moisture in an oil-based or anhydrous product promotes microbial growth, so only fill into a dry container.

Fill the bottle using a narrow funnel or dosing syringe. With a neck of this width, contents spill easily otherwise, and a contaminated thread compromises the closure seal.

Glass can withstand filling with warmer contents, but does not tolerate thermal shock. Do not pour hot oil into a cold bottle, and do not place a filled bottle on a freezing surface. Allow the contents to cool first to approximately the temperature of the bottle. After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. When changing the type of contents — for example from essential oils to an aqueous tonic — be aware that the thread and neck may retain traces of scent.

Label dimensions are listed in the product parameters. Self-adhesive labels adhere reliably to frosted glass; always apply a test piece first and allow it to cure. At the end of its useful life, the bottle belongs in glass recycling — unscrew any closure made of a different material before disposal.

Frosted brown glass does not reveal the fill level or any potential cloudiness or sediment. For serums with dissolved active ingredients, factor this in and inspect the finished product in a clear container before filling.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial serums and oil serums – small daily doses, active ingredients sensitive to light, dispensed by dropper or pump.
  • Essential oil blends and fragrance oils – dark packaging protects terpenes from oxidation.
  • Tinctures and alcoholic extracts – dark glass slows degradation of pigments and active constituents.
  • Cuticle oils, beard oils or massage concentrates – small volume and narrow neck limit air contact with the contents.
  • Samples and travel sizes of liquid creams, tonics or oils in both cosmetic and technical grade.

Frequently asked questions

Does a frosted brown glass bottle protect the contents from light better than a clear one?
Yes, brown glass transmits considerably less UV radiation and visible light than clear glass. For oils, vitamin serums and essential oils this is a significant benefit, as light accelerates their oxidation and loss of scent. Light protection does not, however, replace an antioxidant or preservative — those are addressed in the formulation.
How much can actually be filled into a 30 ml glass bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, i.e. 30 ml, not to the brim. The total volume to the neck is larger, and this difference provides headspace for the dropper or pump and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If the bottle is filled to the brim, inserting the dropper will displace the contents and the thread will become contaminated.
Is the 30 ml glass bottle suitable for essential oils and tinctures?
Yes, glass is one of the few materials that is not degraded by essential oils or alcohol. Nothing leaches into the contents, it does not retain scents, and the brown glass additionally protects terpenes and pigments from light. Pay attention to the choice of closure: the seal and dropper must be made of a material resistant to essential oils, otherwise they will soften or swell over time.
How is a glass bottle prepared before first use?
Before first use, rinse the bottle with warm water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely, neck down. Residual moisture would enter the product, which is particularly problematic in anhydrous oils and serums without a preservative. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle — glass does not tolerate thermal shock.
Can a brown glass bottle be reused?
Yes, after thorough washing and disinfection glass can be used again without loss of properties. When changing the type of contents — for example from fragrance oil to an aqueous tonic — the neck and thread may retain traces of scent, so allow the bottle to air out thoroughly after washing. Closures with rubber seals or droppers wear out faster than the glass itself and should be replaced.
Which closure fits a glass bottle with an 18 mm neck?
The bottle accepts closures with the same thread type, which is specified in the product parameters: caps, droppers, pumps and small sprayers. The choice depends on the consistency of the contents. Thick oils and serums are best dispensed with a dropper or pump, thin alcoholic blends with a sprayer. Complete bottle + closure combinations as well as individual closures are available from Handymade.
