Product description

The amber glass bottle, a type A pharmaceutical bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml, is intended for small portions of cosmetics where protecting the contents from light matters. The dark glass reduces the amount of daylight reaching the contents, so it is filled with oil serums for the face, nails or hair, essential oil blends, facial serums with sensitive active ingredients and alcohol-based tinctures. The 10 ml volume also suits a typical sample or travel size.

The pack contains 187 pcs. It is meant for makers who fill larger batches or regularly prepare samples and do not want to buy packaging one piece at a time.

According to the technical documentation, the packaging is suitable for contact with cosmetic products and for direct contact with food under normal and foreseeable conditions of use. You will find the declaration of conformity with the product.

What it is suitable for

  • Oil serums and facial oils – blends of vegetable oils with essential oils or antioxidants, where dark glass helps preserve the fragrance and colour.
  • Essential oil blends – your own aromatherapy compositions, dispensed drop by drop. Glass does not react with essential oils.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – herbal tinctures, propolis or alcohol-based concentrates. The glass does not release foreign substances into the contents.
  • Serum and oil samples – smaller amounts that let customers try the texture before buying the full-size product.
  • Homemade foods – flavoured oils, concentrated syrups or herbal extracts for the kitchen, in single-use amounts.

Nominal volume and brimful volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold with normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume of the glass body up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is a reserve for a dropper or another closure that extends into the neck, and for the contents expanding when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

With oil serums and essential oils, leave some headspace in the neck, not least to make room for the dropper. A bottle filled to the brim will overflow when the dropper is inserted, and the contents will soil the thread, which then no longer seals properly.

Closures

The pharmaceutical bottle has an 18/410 neck finish. You will find closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations of a bottle with a closure, in the Handymade range. If you are making your own combination, we recommend testing the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the closure with your specific formulation on a single bottle, especially with concentrated essential oils and alcohol.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – we recommend washing new bottles, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting them dry completely. Residual water in an unpreserved cosmetic product shortens its shelf life.
  • Reuse – the glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection, so pharmaceutical bottles can be used again. When changing the contents, replace or thoroughly clean the closure as well, since residues of the previous product remain in it.
  • Glass and heat – fill the bottle with contents that have cooled down. A sudden temperature difference between a hot liquid and cold glass can damage the bottle.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of glass and belongs in glass collection after use.

Label every filled bottle with the name of the contents and the production date. With a large number of identical amber bottles, it is easy to lose track of which blend is in which without labels.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml amber glass pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which is why it is used for light-sensitive preparations. These include oil serums with antioxidants, essential oils and tinctures, whose fragrance and colour change in light. The packaging does not guarantee complete protection, so store the bottles out of direct sunlight.
How much does a 10 ml glass pharmaceutical bottle actually hold?
With normal filling, the bottle is designed to hold 10 ml, which is its nominal volume. The brimful volume is larger, but the difference serves as a reserve for the dropper or another closure and for the contents expanding in warm conditions. If you fill the bottle right up to the neck, the closure will push the contents out and soil the thread.
Can a 10 ml glass pharmaceutical bottle be reused?
Yes, glass pharmaceutical bottles can be washed and used again. Before refilling, wash them, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely so that no water remains in the contents. A closure with residues of the original product, especially essential oils, is better replaced with a new one.
Is a 10 ml glass pharmaceutical bottle suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based tinctures?
Yes, glass is a suitable material for both essential oils and alcohol-based tinctures, because it does not react with them. The weaker point is usually the seal in the closure, which comes into direct contact with the contents. For long-term storage of such blends, we recommend checking the seal of the closure regularly.
Which closure fits a pharmaceutical bottle with an 18/410 neck?
Closures with the same neck finish, that is 18/410, fit this bottle. The choice depends on the contents: liquid serums and essential oils are dispensed with a dropper, while thicker blends can be closed with a cap. If you are making your own combination, test the seal on one bottle before filling the whole batch.
Can I fill a 10 ml glass pharmaceutical bottle with food?
Yes, the packaging is approved for direct contact with food under normal and foreseeable conditions of use. The small volume and dark glass suit flavoured oils, concentrated herbal extracts or syrups in single-use amounts. With food, as with cosmetics, the contents should be cooled before filling and the bottle should be clean and dry.
