Product description
The 5 ml amber glass medicine bottle is intended for small doses: samples of serums and facial oils, essential oil blends, tinctures or perfume concentrates. Amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so it is particularly suitable for contents whose properties change quickly in light, for example vegetable oils prone to oxidation or fragrance blends. The glass does not become saturated with fragrances or oils and withstands alcohol-based and oil-based contents, which are not always compatible with plastic packaging.
The tray pack of 255 is intended for producers who fill samples or small batches in larger quantities and need the bottles stored in a single layer, ready for filling. The packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the relevant legislative requirements. The declaration of conformity is available with the product.
What the medicine bottle is suitable for
- Samples of serums and facial oils – a volume of 5 ml is enough for several applications, so customers can try the product without buying the full-size pack.
- Essential oil blends and perfume concentrates – the packaging does not become saturated with the previous fragrance, and the dark glass protects the fragrance blend from light.
- Tinctures and alcoholic extracts – the glass is resistant to alcohol and the contents do not react with it.
- Test doses – the small volume is suitable for checking the stability of a formulation or for dividing a batch into comparison samples.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume of 5 ml is the volume the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the closure or dropper and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim.
For oil-based and alcohol-based contents, leave an air gap in the neck. The contents expand in warmth, and a full bottle may overflow or leak through the seal once the closure is screwed on. With a dropper, also allow for the glass tube taking up part of the volume.
Closures
The neck has an 18/410 neck finish. The tray contains the bottles only; the closure is selected separately. Closures and droppers with the same neck type, as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. If you combine them yourself, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation, especially with alcohol-based and oil-based contents, which strain the seal differently than water.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottles, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water would dilute anhydrous contents and create conditions for microbial growth.
- Reuse – after thorough washing and disinfection, the medicine bottle can be used again. However, the dropper or the closure seal often retains the fragrance of the previous contents, so it is recommended to replace the closure as well when changing the contents.
- Checking the contents – dark glass makes it harder to check the quantity and clarity of the contents visually. For products where the contents should be visible, clear glass is more suitable.
- Recycling – glass belongs in glass collection. Before disposal, unscrew the closure or dropper and sort them by material.
Glass withstands heat, but it may crack under a sudden change in temperature. Let hot contents cool before filling, and do not fill cold bottles directly from a cooking vessel.
