The brown glass bottle 250 ml with a tall black cap is a container for liquid preparations that are sensitive to light. Brown glass reduces light penetration, making it particularly suitable for vegetable oils, oil serums, tinctures and herbal extracts in alcohol, tonics and other liquid preparations where you want to preserve the colour, scent and efficacy of the ingredients. The 250 ml volume is practical for larger packages of body oils, massage blends, facial waters or liquid shampoos and shower products without a pump.

The set consists of a brown glass bottle and a plastic cap with a 28 mm thread. It is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The food-contact certificate applies to the glass bottle alone; the complete set, i.e. the bottle with this cap, is intended for cosmetic products.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for during normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is the allowance for the cap thread and for expansion of the contents with temperature change. Therefore fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling right up to the neck risks the contents being forced out when closing and the cap not seating properly.

Practical use

Before the first filling, wash, rinse and disinfect both the bottle and the cap with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product can cause cloudiness and is a breeding ground for microorganisms.

Glass is sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Do not pour a hot phase into a cold bottle and do not move the bottle straight from heat into cold, as cracking may occur. Allow the contents to cool to at least lukewarm temperature before filling.

The cap is made of LDPE and performs reliably with standard cosmetic contents. If you are preparing a product with a high proportion of essential oils, pure alcohol or other solvents, verify the cap's behaviour with the specific formulation: store the filled bottle upside down for a few days and check both the seal and the appearance of the cap.

Good to know

• Labelling – the straight body of the bottle is suitable for both wrap-around and front labels; dimensions are available in the product parameters. Apply the label to a dry, degreased bottle.
• Refilling – before reuse, wash the bottle with warm soapy water, rinse and disinfect in the same way as before the first filling. Check the cap for cracks or deformation; replace it if in doubt.
• Dispensing – the set with the cap is suitable for contents that are poured or measured separately. For drop-by-drop dispensing or application to the skin, choose a combination with a dropper or pump with the same neck.
