Product description

Airless bottle, plastic black, 50 ml, is a complete set of a bottle with a piston base and a top with a pump, which dispenses the contents without allowing air to be drawn into the bottle. It is particularly suitable for creams, serums, gels and emulsions that need to remain stable and hygienically sealed for as long as possible – that is, for formulations with sensitive active ingredients, plant oils or milder preservation systems. The black opaque bottle also protects the contents from light, making it suitable for formulations with antioxidants, vitamins or essential oils that lose their efficacy when exposed to light. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not approved for contact with food and is intended for cosmetic use only.

How the airless system works

A regular pump bottle draws the contents up through a tube and lets air in with every press. An airless bottle has no tube. At the bottom there is a movable piston that shifts slightly upward with each press of the pump and pushes the contents towards the outlet. This creates a vacuum inside the bottle, so the contents are not in contact with air or fingers.

In practice, this offers four benefits:

  • Lower oxidation – the contents come into less contact with air, so plant oils, vitamins and other sensitive ingredients deteriorate more slowly.
  • Hygienic dispensing – contaminants from hands cannot enter the bottle, which makes it easier to work with formulations that use a milder preservation system.
  • Emptying almost to the last drop – the piston pushes the contents out evenly, leaving minimal residue in the bottle.
  • Use in any position – since the system has no suction tube, the pump works even when the bottle is turned upside down.

Which products is it suitable for

Airless dispensing works best with products of medium viscosity: facial and eye creams, light to medium-thick emulsions, serums on an emulsion or gel base, gel creams or tinted foundations. The 50 ml volume corresponds to a standard size for a facial cream or serum lasting several weeks of use.

Less suitable are very thin aqueous solutions and tonics, which may drip from the outlet, and conversely very firm balms or butters that the pump cannot push through. With pure oils and oil-based serums, dispensing usually works, but it depends on their viscosity. We recommend testing with the specific formulation.

One press of the pump dispenses approximately 0.5 ml of content. This is practical for formulations where precise dosing matters, such as serums with a higher proportion of active ingredients.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the container is designed for standard filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the pump top and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the top cannot be fitted properly and some of the contents will be pushed out when closing.

Filling and preparation

Before filling for the first time, we recommend washing both the bottle and the top, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing them to dry completely. The contents are filled from above into the open bottle; a spatula or filling syringe can help when filling thicker creams. When filling, it is a good idea to tap the bottle gently on a surface to release any air bubbles. Trapped air reduces the reliability of the piston. After screwing on the top, press the pump several times until the system is primed and starts dispensing.

Polypropylene is resistant to most cosmetic bases. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, fragrance compositions or solvents, however, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the container and the seal of the pump in a short stability test beforehand.

Good to know

  • Material – both the bottle and the top are made of polypropylene (PP), making them lightweight and unbreakable, suitable for shipping and travel.
  • Label – the smooth cylindrical wall is easy to label.
  • Recycling – both components are made of polypropylene and belong in the sorted plastic waste stream.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 50 ml airless bottle suitable for aqueous tonics or hydrolates?
No, an airless bottle is not recommended for very thin aqueous contents. The pump is designed for creams, serums and emulsions with medium viscosity. A thin liquid may drip from the outlet on its own and the dose will not be precise. For tonics and hydrolates, a spray bottle is more suitable.
Does the black airless bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the black opaque wall made of polypropylene does not let light through. The container is therefore suitable for serums and creams with vitamin C, retinoids, plant oils or essential oils that lose their efficacy when exposed to light. Opacity also has a practical consequence: the amount of remaining contents is not visible.
Why does the airless bottle not dispense at first?
After filling, the system is empty and needs to be primed. Simply press the pump several times in a row until the contents reach the outlet. If it still does not dispense, the cause is usually air trapped in the contents or the top not screwed on tightly enough. Tapping the bottle and tightening the top usually helps.
Can the 50 ml airless bottle be refilled after it is empty?
Yes, the set can be used repeatedly. Unscrew the top, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry. Before the next filling, push the piston back down to the bottom position and check that it moves freely. Otherwise, only part of the contents will fit in the bottle.
Is the airless bottle suitable for pure oil or an oil-based serum?
Generally yes – for oils of medium viscosity, the pump dispenses reliably. With very thin oils, dripping may occur, so we recommend verifying behaviour with the specific oil. The advantage is that the oil is not in contact with air, so it yellows more slowly.
Can I use a different cap or pump on the airless bottle?
We recommend using the top designed for this type of bottle. The airless system only works with a piston and top that are matched to each other. Closures with the same neck type and ready-made bottle and top combinations can be found in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, always verify the seal, dispensing and container behaviour with the specific formulation.
