Clear Glass Bottle, 5 ml, 255 pieces

The clear glass medicine bottle with a volume of 5 ml is packaging for small quantities of cosmetics: samples of serums and oils, trial batches of fragrance compositions, or portions of active ingredients for testing a formulation. Clear glass shows the colour and purity of the contents, so it suits cases where the customer or the maker needs to see what is inside. It is supplied on a tray of 255 pcs, and the whole pack is the sales unit.

The neck has an 18/410 neck finish, a common size that can be combined with the closures in the Handymade range. Glass does not react with oils, alcohol or essential oils, so the medicine bottle can hold concentrated blends in which a plastic container might soften or absorb the scent.

What it is suitable for

• Samples and testers – a small portion of serum, facial oil or perfume to try before buying the full-size pack.
• Trial batches – when fine-tuning a formulation, 5 ml holds just enough to check the fragrance, colour and stability without wasting raw materials.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the top of the neck and is higher. The difference is a reserve for the closure or dropper, which extends into the neck once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. It is therefore filled up to the nominal volume. If you fill to the brim, the contents overflow when the closure is fitted and the dropper may not seal properly.

Closures with the same neck type, that is the 18/410 neck finish, and ready-made medicine bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the seal and comfortable dispensing with your specific formulation.

Good to know

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store light-sensitive products, such as vegetable oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin C or some essential oils, in a clear medicine bottle in the dark, or choose amber or blue glass. For samples and testers that are used up within a few weeks, clear packaging is usually sufficient.

Fill the warm oil phase into medicine bottles at room temperature, not into ones taken straight from the fridge. A sudden temperature shock can damage the glass. Once emptied, the packaging can be washed and used again. The packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the relevant legislative requirements, and Handymade issues an EU declaration of conformity for it. Glass goes into glass waste; separate any closure made of another material before disposal.
