Product description

The transparent plastic bottle with foamer pump, 200 ml, is a complete set of bottle and foaming pump intended for liquid wash products that are to be dispensed directly as ready foam. When pressed, the pump mixes the thin surfactant solution with air and turns it into a fine, dense foam. It is therefore suited especially to foaming facial cleansing gels, liquid hand soaps, foaming shower products, shampoos for fine hair or wash foams for children.

The transparent PET bottle is lightweight and unbreakable, so it fits in the bathroom and by the sink, where glass is not practical. The contents are visible, so the user can easily see how much product is left. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product. It is not intended for food use.

Key benefits

  • Foam without propellant – the pump foams purely mechanically, the product needs no aerosol filling or compressed gas.
  • Economical dispensing – a single press releases a measured dose of foam, and a single wash usually needs less product than with a gel that foams only on the skin.
  • Gentle use – the ready foam spreads easily and rinses off quickly, suitable especially for facial products and for children.
  • Hygienic dispensing – the closed pump system limits contact of the contents with air and hands during use.
  • Light and durable packaging – PET withstands a fall in the bathroom and reduces the weight of the shipment.

Which formulations are suitable for the foamer

The foaming pump works only with products that have a low viscosity close to that of water. The pump will not draw up a thick shower gel or a liquid soap thickened with salt or gums, or it may clog. Foaming products are therefore formulated as thin surfactant solutions. The proportion of surfactants tends to be lower than in an ordinary shower gel, because mechanical foaming with air compensates for the smaller amount of surfactants. Fine-tune the exact ratio according to the surfactants used and verify it directly in this set.

The formulation should not contain solid particles (exfoliating granules, undissolved powders, plant grits) or a larger proportion of oils. Particles get caught in the pump's strainer, oils suppress the foam and over time gum up the pump. A small amount of a water-soluble softening additive, for example glycerin or a solubilized essential oil, is usually tolerated by the foam. However, check the foam quality and pump operation even after several days.

Before filling the whole batch, fill one bottle and test whether the pump produces a stable, dense foam. If the foam comes out thin or watery, the formulation is too weak or contains too much oil. If the pump is hard to press, the product is too thick.

Foaming products are aqueous systems, so they need preservation like any water-based preparation. Although the pump limits air access, the strainer and tube remain in contact with the product and, with every press, also with air.

Suitable for products such as

  • Foaming facial cleansers and make-up removing foams.
  • Liquid soaps and wash foams for hands.
  • Foaming shower and bath products, especially for children.
  • Gentle shampoos and foams for washing dogs and cats.
  • Shaving foams in an aqueous, surfactant form (not classic shaving creams).

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is intended for under normal filling, and it is also stated in the product name. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is larger. The difference forms a reserve for the tube and the pump mechanism, which take up space in the bottle, and for the air that the pump needs to work. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle overflows when the pump is attached and the pump may not draw properly.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling: rinse the bottle and pump with clean water, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. After attaching the pump, press it empty several times until the system fills and starts producing foam.

Heat and filling: PET deforms with heat, so the product is always filled only after it has cooled to room temperature. Do not wash the bottle with hot water and do not leave it in the sun or near a radiator.

Light: transparent packaging does not protect the contents from light. With ordinary surfactant products this does not matter. For contents sensitive to light, for example with a higher proportion of dyes or unstable active substances, consider an opaque bottle.

Essential oils and solvents: PET tolerates ordinary diluted aqueous formulations. With a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or other solvents, verify how the packaging behaves with the specific formulation. However, such contents generally do not belong in a foamer anyway.

Reuse: once used up, the set can be rinsed and refilled. Wash the bottle with lukewarm water, disinfect with alcohol if needed and let it dry. Flush the pump several times with clean water so that no dried product remains in the strainer. When changing the product, thorough rinsing is necessary so that residues of the old contents do not mix with the new one.

With transparent packaging the label is visible through the contents from the other side of the bottle too, so take this into account when designing.

Closures: the set is supplied with a foaming pump, and the bottle and pump alone are also available from Handymade separately. When combining your own closure of the same neck type, verify the tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation.

Recycling: the PET bottle is recycled as plastic, unscrew the pump from the bottle before disposal.

Do not transport a filled bottle with the foamer lying down and without securing the pump. Under pressure on the head or with larger temperature fluctuations the product may leak from the nozzle.

Frequently asked questions

What product can be filled into the bottle with foamer?
The bottle with foamer is suited to thin aqueous products based on surfactants with a consistency close to water. Typically these are foaming cleansing gels, liquid hand soaps or shampoos prepared in diluted form. Thick gels, creams, oils and products with solid particles cannot be foamed by the pump and will clog it over time.
Why does the foaming pump produce no foam or foam weakly?
The most common cause is too low a proportion of surfactants in the formulation or the presence of oil, which suppresses the foam. The second cause is a product that is too thick for the pump to draw up. On first use the pump needs to be pressed empty several times until the system fills. Also check that the bottle is not overfilled above the nominal volume.
Is the 200 ml bottle with foamer suitable for liquid soap?
Yes, but the liquid soap must be thin. Ordinary liquid soap thickened with salt or gums is too thick for the pump. A soap or surfactant base is diluted with water to a consistency close to water and the foam is created only in the pump. The diluted product also needs to be adequately preserved.
Does the transparent PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, transparent PET lets light through. With ordinary surfactant products this usually does not matter and the visible level of the contents is an advantage. Products with dyes or unstable active substances that change colour or efficacy in light are better filled into an opaque bottle or stored away from direct sunlight.
How much product is filled into a bottle with a nominal volume of 200 ml?
It is filled to the nominal volume, that is approximately 200 ml, not to the brim. The remaining space is a reserve for the tube and the pump mechanism and for the air the pump needs for foaming. An overfilled bottle overflows when the pump is attached and the pump may produce weaker foam.
