Diffuser pendant, surgical steel, butterfly

Diffuser pendant made of surgical steel with a cut-out butterfly motif lets you carry the scent of an essential oil with you at all times without perfume. How a diffuser pendant works

At its core is a closable locket with a cut-out front panel. Inside is a space for a replaceable felt or cotton insert that absorbs the oil and keeps it away from direct skin contact. The scent releases gradually from the insert. Intensity depends on the type of oil, the number of drops, body temperature, and ambient conditions. Light, volatile scents (citrus, mint, eucalyptus) are initially strong and fade faster. Heavier scents (lavender, cedarwood, patchouli, ylang-ylang) last longer and diffuse more softly.

Why surgical steel

• Resistance to oil and moisture – surgical steel does not corrode, discolour, or degrade when exposed to essential oils, unlike zinc-plated or lacquered costume jewellery metals.
• Skin compatibility – it is among the materials that are generally well tolerated by skin, even with all-day wear.
• Easy maintenance – wipe the surface with alcohol and the locket is ready for the next scent.
• Does not alter the scent of the oil – the inert metal does not react with the components of essential oils, so the scent remains exactly as you applied it.

How to use the pendant

Open the locket, insert the pad, and apply the essential oil directly onto it. As a guideline, 1–3 drops is sufficient; use fewer for strong oils and slightly more for subtle scents. Let the insert absorb the oil for a moment so it does not spill onto the metal, then close the locket. When changing scents, replace the insert with a fresh one to prevent mixing.

The pendant can be worn on a chain, cord, or leather strap sized to fit the bail. It also works as a hanging diffuser in a car, wardrobe, or on a keyring.

Good to know

• Photosensitising oils – citrus oils (bergamot, lemon, lime) increase skin sensitivity to sunlight. In the pendant they are contained on the insert, but if they come into contact with skin, wash them off before sun exposure.
• Water and showering – the steel can handle water, but the insert will get wet and the scent will dilute. Remove the pendant before showering, swimming or using a sauna.
• Cleaning – wipe the inside and outside of the locket with a pad soaked in alcohol or ethanol, allow to dry, then insert a new pad. When switching to a completely different scent, this reliably removes traces of the previous oil.
• Fragrance blends – in addition to essential oils, you can also use fragrance oils intended for cosmetics. Dose with the same care — some are more concentrated than essential oils.
• Children, pregnancy, sensitivity – match the choice of oil to the person wearing the pendant. For young children and during pregnancy, use mild oils in small amounts, and if in doubt, verify your choice in professional aromatherapy literature.
