Product description
The glass roll-on bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml is a ready-made set for filling with liquid products applied directly to the skin with a roller ball: oil-based perfumes and aromatherapy blends, roll-on deodorants, massage and body oils, or thin cooling gels. Clear glass shows the colour and purity of the contents, and the medicine bottle shape with straight walls sits well in the hand. The set includes a black plastic cap and a metal roller ball in a plastic insert, both made for the same neck as the bottle, so once the bottle is filled you only need to press in the insert and screw on the cap.
How a roll-on works
The steel roller ball sits in a plastic insert that is pressed into the neck of the bottle. When you turn the bottle over and run it across the skin, the ball rotates and carries a thin film of the contents from inside the bottle. The dose is small and even, the product does not spill, and your hands stay clean. A steel roller ball feels cooler to the touch than a plastic one, which suits cooling gels and refreshing products. The cap screws on over the ball and protects it during transport.
What it is suitable for
- Oil-based perfumes and fragrance blends – a carrier oil with a fragrance composition or essential oils is applied precisely to the wrists, neck or behind the ears with the roller ball.
- Roll-on deodorants – water-based and alcohol-based formulations with lower viscosity, which the roller ball spreads into a thin layer without dripping.
- Massage and body oils – blends of vegetable oils for local use, where the oil does not need to be poured into the palm.
- Cooling and refreshing gels – thin gels, where the cool touch of the steel complements the feel of the formulation.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference leaves room for the roller ball insert, which extends into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill only up to the nominal volume. An overfilled bottle overflows when the insert is pressed in, and the contents get under the cap.
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the roller ball insert and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water does not belong in oil-based or anhydrous products.
The roller ball works with liquids of low to medium viscosity. Thick gels and creams cannot be applied with a roller ball, and very thin alcohol solutions may seep around the ball when the bottle is turned over. Check the consistency and the tightness on a small sample before filling the whole batch.
Fit the roller ball insert only after filling and press it in evenly around the whole circumference until it seats in the neck. An unevenly pressed insert does not seal, and the cap can no longer press it down.
Good to know
- Light – clear glass does not filter out light. Store products containing essential oils or sensitive vegetable oils away from direct sunlight, or choose amber or blue glass for them.
- Heat – do not fill the glass with hot contents, as it may crack in a sudden temperature change. Let the mixture cool to room temperature before filling.
- Concentrated blends – with a high proportion of essential oils or with alcohol solutions, check on a sample that the insert seals and the roller ball turns freely.
- Cosmetics and food – the set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the cap and the roller ball do not, so use the set with the roll-on closure for cosmetic products.
- Reuse – after washing, the glass can be filled again. The roller ball insert is difficult to clean from the inside, so it is better to replace it with a new one when you change the formulation.
- Other closures – closures with the same neck type given in the parameters fit the bottle, and you can find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
- Recycling – the bottle belongs in glass waste and the cap with plastics. The roller ball insert combines plastic and steel.
