Product description

The glass roll-on bottle with a volume of 5 ml is supplied as a ready-made set: a clear glass medicine bottle, an insert with a metal ball and a black plastic cap with an 18/410 neck finish. It is used for liquid preparations that are applied directly to the skin in small amounts, especially perfume oils, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, spot serums or cuticle oil. Clear glass shows the colour and the remaining amount of the contents, which is useful for samples and trial batches where fragrances and shades are compared. The small volume also suits travel packs and gift sets.

How the set works

Once the bottle is filled, the ball insert is pressed into its neck, where it stays in place without being screwed in. When the bottle is turned over and rolled across the skin, the ball applies a thin layer of the preparation without dripping and without your fingers touching the contents. The steel ball feels cool to the touch, which is why a roll-on is often chosen for the temples, wrists or neck. The cap is screwed over the insert onto the thread of the bottle, protects the ball from dirt and keeps the set closed in a handbag or travel bag.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the declaration of conformity and technical documentation are available with the product.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold in normal filling, in this case 5 ml. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference is a reserve for the ball insert, which takes up part of the neck once it is pressed in. For this reason, fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the preparation will overflow when the ball is fitted.

Fill the bottle with no more than the nominal 5 ml, press the ball insert into the neck evenly and straight, and only then screw on the cap. With a trial piece, turn the set upside down and leave it standing for a moment to check the seal with your particular formulation.

What it is suitable for

  • Perfume oils – a fragrance composition diluted in a carrier oil, for example jojoba or fractionated coconut oil, is applied precisely to the pulse points with a roll-on, without waste.
  • Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil at a usual usage rate, ready to use without measuring out drops.
  • Spot serums and oils – cuticle oil, nourishing lip oil or spot care for minor imperfections, where a few passes of the ball are enough.
  • Samples and travel packs – 5 ml is enough for trying out a new composition or for a trip of a few days.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the ball insert and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual moisture does not belong in an oil-based preparation, and in a roll-on it settles under the ball.

A roll-on is designed for liquid oils and thin solutions. Thick balms and gels will not flow past the ball. Very thin alcohol solutions, on the other hand, may seep around the insert faster than desired. The cap and the insert are made of polypropylene, so with concentrated essential oils or solvents, watch whether the plastic parts change shape or colour over time.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store blends with essential oils and oils sensitive to oxidation away from direct sunlight or in a box.

The glass bottle can be reused. When you change the fragrance, remove the ball insert and clean it thoroughly, because residues of the previous composition cling to the space under the ball. You will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. At the end of its life, the glass belongs in glass waste, and the plastic parts with the ball are sorted separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear roll-on bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. Its advantage is that you can see the colour and the amount of the preparation, which is useful for samples and for comparing fragrances. Store blends with essential oils or oils sensitive to oxidation in a box or away from direct sunlight. If the preparation is to be exposed to light for a long time, choose amber glass.
How much actually fits into a 5 ml roll-on bottle?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 5 ml, although the physical volume to the brim is larger and you will find it in the parameters. The difference is a reserve for the ball insert, which takes up part of the neck once it is pressed in. If you fill to the brim, the preparation overflows when the ball is fitted, so allow for this reserve when you measure out the amount.
Is a glass roll-on bottle suitable for blends of essential oils?
Yes, for essential oils diluted in a carrier oil, a roll-on is one of the most common types of packaging. Glass does not react with concentrated fragrances, but the cap and the ball insert are made of polypropylene. With highly concentrated blends or solvents, watch whether the plastic parts change shape or colour over time, and test the seal on a trial piece.
Can a roll-on bottle be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle can be washed, disinfected with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and filled again once it is dry. The ball insert needs to be removed and cleaned separately, because residues of the previous preparation cling to the space under the ball. When you change the fragrance composition, it is advisable to use a new insert so that the fragrances do not mix.
What preparations do not belong in a roll-on bottle?
Thick balms, creams and gels do not belong in a roll-on bottle, because the ball cannot move them onto the skin. A roll-on works with liquid oils and thin solutions. Very thin alcohol solutions may seep around the insert faster, so with alcohol-based perfumes, first check the seal with your particular formulation.
