Product description

Glass bottle, black glossy, roll-on, 10 ml

A roll-on set with everything needed to apply liquid preparations directly to the skin: a 10 ml glass bottle, a ball housing with a steel roller ball and a black cap with an 18/410 neck finish. The roller ball dispenses the contents in small amounts, without dripping and without fingers touching the filling. It is suitable especially for oil-based perfumes, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, roll-ons for temples and wrists, spot serums and preparations for the eye area and lips.

Black glass does not let light through, so the contents are not exposed to light. This makes it suitable for light-sensitive fillings, especially blends with essential oils and vegetable oils. The glossy surface with the black cap looks uniform, which is useful for a series of products with the same appearance. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The certificate for direct contact with food applies only to the glass bottle on its own; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How to use a roll-on

The bottle is filled without the roller ball fitted. The ball housing with the roller ball is then pressed into the neck and the cap is screwed on, protecting the contents from drying out and preventing the bottle from opening accidentally in a bag. During application the roller ball turns and transfers a thin layer of the preparation to the skin. The amount applied depends on the number of strokes.

The roller ball works with liquid and thin-flowing contents. Oils, oil-based perfumes, blends with alcohol and light serums are dispensed through it without difficulty. Thicker gels and creams are not spread evenly by the roller ball and may block it. This type of closure is not intended for them.

When filling, leave some room in the neck. The ball housing with the roller ball displaces part of the contents when pressed in. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the preparation will overflow through the neck during assembly.

Nominal volume and total volume

The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck. The difference between them is the reserve for the ball housing, so the bottle is filled only up to the nominal volume.

Good to know

  • Preparation before the first filling – we recommend washing the bottle, roller ball and cap, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving them to dry completely.
  • Essential oils and plastic – the glass and the steel roller ball are resistant to essential oils. The ball housing and the cap are made of polypropylene. With undiluted essential oils or blends with a higher proportion of solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic parts behave with your specific formulation.
  • Tightness – a roll-on is often carried in a handbag or pocket. Before the product goes on sale, we recommend testing whether the contents leak around the roller ball when the bottle is turned upside down or shaken.
  • Contents not visible – the amount of filling cannot be seen through black glass. The customer cannot tell from the bottle how much is left.
  • Reuse – the bottle can be washed and refilled. The ball housing with the roller ball can be removed from the neck, but after refitting we recommend checking the tightness again.
  • Other closures – the bottle has an 18/410 neck finish. You can find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your formulation.
  • Recycling – before disposal, separate the ball housing with the roller ball and the cap from the bottle. The glass goes in glass recycling and the polypropylene cap in plastics.

The set is not intended for filling with food. Only the glass bottle itself has a food-contact certificate; the cap and the roller ball do not.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass roll-on bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, black glass does not let light through to the contents. This is an advantage for blends with essential oils, vegetable oils and oil-based perfumes, which are sensitive to light. The disadvantage is that the remaining amount of filling cannot be seen through the glass. The customer therefore has to estimate the level from the weight of the bottle or from how long the roll-on has been in use.
What preparations can be filled into a 10 ml roll-on bottle?
Liquid and thin-flowing preparations are filled into a roll-on bottle: oil-based perfumes, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, light serums, and roll-ons for the temples or for the eye area and lips. Thicker gels and creams are not dispensed evenly through the roller ball and may block it. The amount applied to the skin depends on the number of strokes of the roller ball.
How is a roll-on bottle filled and when is the roller ball fitted?
A roll-on bottle is filled before the roller ball is fitted; the ball housing with the roller ball is pressed into the neck only after filling. It is filled up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim, because the housing displaces part of the contents during assembly. Finally, the cap is screwed on, protecting the contents from drying out and preventing the bottle from opening accidentally.
Is a glass roll-on bottle suitable for essential oils?
The glass and the steel roller ball are resistant to essential oils, so the roll-on is commonly used for diluted blends of essential oils in a carrier oil. The ball housing and the cap are made of polypropylene. With undiluted essential oils, we recommend checking the behaviour of the plastic parts with your specific blend and checking the tightness after a few days.
Can a roll-on bottle be reused?
Yes, a glass roll-on bottle can be washed and refilled. The ball housing with the roller ball is removed from the neck, all parts are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry. After refitting the roller ball, we recommend checking that the contents do not leak when the bottle is turned upside down, because the tightness of the housing may deteriorate with repeated removal.
