Product description
A glass bottle with a roller ball and a volume of 50 ml applies liquid cosmetic products directly to the skin without your hands touching the contents. The black glossy glass is opaque and protects the contents from light, which you will appreciate with oil-based perfumes, essential oil blends and other light-sensitive products. The set is supplied as a whole: a medicine bottle, a steel ball in a plastic holder and a black cap, all with an 18/410 neck finish.
For a roll-on, a volume of 50 ml is fairly large. It is therefore enough for products applied to larger areas or used daily, for example body and massage oils, aromatherapy blends in a carrier oil or liquid deodorants. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass bottle has a certificate for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
How the roll-on works
After filling, the holder with the ball is pressed into the neck of the bottle, and the cap is screwed onto the thread and covers the ball. When you turn the bottle over and glide it across the skin, the ball rotates and transfers a thin layer of the contents. Dispensing is even, the product does not spill and your hands stay clean.
The ball is made of steel. Metal feels cooler to the touch than plastic, which is useful for products applied to the temples or neck. The cap protects the ball from dust and from the remains of the product drying on its surface.
What it is suited for
- Oil-based perfumes and fragrance blends – the ball applies exactly as much as you need for the wrist or neck.
- Aromatherapy roll-ons – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil for the temples, neck or chest. The larger volume lasts for a longer period.
- Body and massage oils – at 50 ml you can also apply them to larger areas, and the ball spreads the oil evenly without dripping.
- Liquid deodorants and toners – water-based products with low viscosity. A water-based formula needs preservation like any other water-containing product.
- Light gels and serums – cooling or soothing products with a thin to medium-thick consistency.
A roll-on needs contents that flow. Thin oils, aqueous solutions and light gels are easily transferred by the ball, while thick creams and balms cannot be applied with it. We recommend testing the consistency on a single bottle before you fill a larger batch.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them leaves room for the ball holder and for the contents to expand with changes in temperature. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. When the holder is pressed into the neck, the liquid level is pushed upwards and an overfilled bottle would overflow.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, the holder with the ball and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck would get into the contents.
- Reuse – after thorough washing, the glass can be used again. The holder with the ball can be removed from the neck, but after refitting it, check that it still seals in the neck.
- Glass and heat – do not pour hot mixtures into the bottle and avoid sudden temperature changes, for example moving it from the cold into hot water.
- Plastic parts – the ball holder and the cap are made of polypropylene. With high concentrations of essential oils, alcohol-based mixtures or solvents, check beforehand how the plastic parts and the seal behave with your specific formulation.
- Other closures – closures with the same neck type given in the parameters fit the bottle, and ready-made packaging and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you combine them yourself, check the seal and dispensing with your specific contents.
- Recycling – glass goes with glass, while the plastic parts and the ball with its steel part are sorted separately by material.
With water-based and alcohol-based products, check the seal of the ball in the neck before you fill a whole batch. Fill the bottle, fit the holder with the ball, screw on the cap and leave the bottle lying on its side or upside down for several hours.
