Product description
A brown glass bottle with a capacity of 250 ml is designed for liquid products that need protection from light. It is suitable for hydrosols, toners, vegetable, massage and body oils, tinctures and alcohol extracts. The packaging is suitable for direct contact with food as well as cosmetics, so it works equally well for homemade syrups, herbal extracts or oils.
Why choose brown glass
- Light protection – dark glass limits exposure to radiation that accelerates yellowing of oils and the degradation of sensitive plant-based ingredients. The contents therefore retain their original colour and scent for longer.
- Chemical resistance – glass does not react with essential oils or alcohol and is impermeable to air and scent. It is therefore a suitable choice even where plastic might soften over time or absorb odours.
- Reusability – the smooth surface can be thoroughly washed and disinfected, so the bottle withstands many refills.
- Capacity for larger batches – 250 ml is a practical size for products that are consumed more quickly, for stock packaging or for refilling smaller bottles.
Which products it is suitable for
The bottle has a narrow neck, so it is intended for liquid and free-flowing contents. It pours well for hydrosols, facial toner, micellar water, cleansing oil, body and hair oil, bath base or tinctures. Thick creams, butters and gels that do not flow on their own do not belong in it. These require a jar or pot with a wide opening.
When working with water-based cosmetics, keep in mind that dark glass protects against light, not against microorganisms. Preservation of the product remains just as necessary as with any other packaging.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity right up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides clearance for a cap, pump or sprayer, which each take up some space, and for the expansion of contents when temperature changes. Both values are listed in the product specifications.
Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The headspace below the neck prevents overflow when fitting the closure and stops contents from being pushed out when the bottle warms up.
Closure and neck
The bottle is supplied without a closure. The neck type is stated in the specifications; closures with the matching neck type as well as ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing method and how the packaging behaves with the specific formulation. This is especially important with thin oils and alcohol-based solutions, which will leak through even a minor gap.
Useful information
Before the first fill, wash the bottle with warm water and a cleaning agent, rinse thoroughly and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Then leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual moisture is undesirable in anhydrous products such as oils, as it introduces a risk of microbial contamination.
Glass handles sudden temperature changes poorly. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle and do not rinse a hot bottle with cold water – it may crack. Allow warm syrups or extracts to cool slightly before filling, or pre-warm the bottle beforehand.
Labels adhere best to a dry and grease-free surface, so wipe the glass with alcohol before applying. Dimensions required for label design are listed in the specifications. Once the bottle has served its purpose, it belongs in glass recycling.
