Product description

Glass bottle, vial, square straight, 10 ml is a small container made of amber glass for cosmetic and food products that require protection from light and a chemically resistant material. Amber glass reduces the penetration of daylight and thereby slows down light-triggered changes in the contents. This is particularly valuable for essential oils, fragrance blends, oil serums, tinctures, and concentrated active ingredients.

The square straight shape gives the bottle a stable stand and flat walls that hold a label well. The small volume makes it suitable for samples, travel sizes, test batches during formula development, or gift sets. "Vial" refers to the shape of the container, not its intended use.

Why choose this bottle

  • Light protection – amber glass filters the portion of the light spectrum that accelerates oxidation of oils and fading of fragrant or coloured components. For light-sensitive products it is a better choice than clear glass.
  • Chemical resistance of glass – glass does not react with essential oils, alcohol, solvents, or acidic extracts and does not release odours or plasticisers into the contents.
  • Square shape – flat walls and edges allow more bottles to be packed tightly side by side in a box or drawer and make it easier to apply a label without creases.
  • Food and cosmetic contact – the container has food-contact certification and a declaration of suitability for cosmetic products, so it can be used for both product categories.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions, and it is the volume by which the container is labelled and sold. Total brim-full volume is the physical capacity of the glass up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the closure or dropper, which occupies part of the neck space once screwed in, and also allows for expansion of the contents with temperature changes.

Always fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling to the neck will cause the contents to be pushed out when a dropper is fitted, soiling the thread and preventing the closure from sealing properly.

What this bottle is suitable for

  • Essential oil blends and fragrance compositions – the small volume limits contact with air; amber glass provides protection from light.
  • Oil serums and facial oils – 10 ml is a common size for concentrated serums with a high proportion of active ingredients.
  • Tinctures, herbal extracts, and alcohol-based extracts – glass resists alcohol and does not alter the taste or scent of the contents.
  • Perfume oils and fragrance samples with a suitable closure.
  • Food concentrates – homemade flavoured oils, vanilla extract, herb-infused oils for seasoning in small quantities.
  • Samples and test batches – during formula development or when sending samples to customers.

For water-based products the small volume is an advantage, as the contents are used up quickly. However, preservation of the contents is governed by the formulation, not by the container.

Closures and ready-made combinations

The bottle is supplied without a closure. Closures with the same thread type as specified in the product parameters are compatible, and ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination we recommend verifying tightness and dosing with the specific formulation, as thick oils and thin alcohol-based solutions behave differently from a dropper or spray.

What to know before filling

Before first use, wash and sanitise the bottle with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water in an oil-based product or fragrance blend will cause cloudiness and shorten the stability of the contents.

Glass is suitable for repeated use. After emptying, simply wash the bottle with warm water and dish soap — for oils, a pre-rinse with alcohol helps — and sanitise again. The closure, especially a dropper with a rubber bulb, wears out before the glass does, and we recommend replacing it when refilling.

Glass tolerates sudden temperature changes poorly. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle and do not move it directly from a cold environment into warmth. When filling with molten contents, allow both the bottle and the contents to approach the same temperature first.

Label dimensions are listed in the product parameters. The flat walls of the square shape allow a label to be applied without folding.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml amber glass vial fully protect the contents from light?
No, amber glass reduces light transmission but does not block it entirely. It lowers the penetration of the part of the spectrum that most accelerates oxidation of oils and breakdown of fragrant compounds. For light-sensitive products it is a better choice than clear glass, but the contents should still be stored away from direct sunlight.
Is the 10 ml square glass bottle suitable for essential oils and fragrance blends?
Yes, amber glass is a standard container for essential oils and fragrance compositions. Glass does not react with concentrated oils, does not soften, and does not absorb scent, so the bottle can be reused for a different blend after washing. The choice of closure matters — select one with a seal resistant to essential oils, as standard rubber dropper bulbs may swell over time.
What closure fits the 10 ml glass vial?
The bottle is sold without a closure and is compatible with any closure that matches the thread type stated in the product parameters: dropper, spray, or cap. Ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, verify tightness and dosing with the actual contents, as thick oils and thin alcohol-based solutions behave differently.
Can I use the 10 ml glass vial for food, for example homemade vanilla extract?
Yes, the bottle has food-contact certification for normal conditions of use. It is suitable for small quantities of flavoured oils, alcohol-based extracts, herbal infusions, or flavouring syrups. It is equally suitable for cosmetic products, so the same container can be used for both product types.
Is the 10 ml amber bottle also suitable for water-based products such as tonics or hydrolats?
Yes, glass is suitable for water-based, alcohol-based, and oil-based contents without restriction. For water-based products, however, the container does not replace preservation — that is addressed in the formulation. The small volume is practical for water-based products, as the contents are used up quickly and are exposed to air for a shorter time after opening.
