Product description

A glass cosmetic tester with a transparent cap is a small sample container with a nominal volume of 1 ml, designed for distributing and sending cosmetic samples. The set consists of a clear glass bottle with a thread and a transparent plastic screw cap, supplied complete and ready to fill. It is suitable wherever a customer needs to try a product first: samples of fragrance compositions, aromatic and essential oils, facial serums, oil blends or tinctures.

Clear glass reveals the colour and clarity of the contents and does not react with common cosmetic ingredients, so the sample remains true to the original product in both scent and appearance. The transparent cap lets the contents stand out, and once a label is applied the tester looks cohesive. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity for both components can be found with the product.

What the tester is suitable for

  • Samples of perfumes and fragrance compositions – one millilitre is enough for several applications and the customer can verify the scent directly on the skin, not just from a strip.
  • Samples of serums and oils – a small amount of facial serum, oil blend or liquid active ingredient for two to three applications without giving away a full-size package.
  • Sending with an order – the tester is light and compact, fits into an envelope or alongside a parcel as a gift or preview of a new product.
  • Formulator's own work – setting aside a small batch sample for comparing scent or colour, monitoring the stability of a composition in light, or transferring a working sample.
  • Repeated filling – if you use the testers more than once, the glass bottle can be washed and refilled; simply clean or replace the cap.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the volume for which the tester is designed under normal filling conditions. The total capacity to the rim is greater, because the bottle space extends up to the neck. The difference between them is the headspace for the cap and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The tester should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow when the cap is screwed on, and the contents on the thread will soil the label and hands.

With such a small neck, the most convenient filling method is a dropper, a needleless syringe or a small funnel. Thicker serums should be filled slowly to prevent an air bubble from forming in the narrow bottle, which would take up part of the volume.

For fragrance compositions and aromatic oils, fill the tester only after the composition has fully matured. In such a small volume the scent no longer develops, and the customer will experience it exactly as it was when you filled it.

Good to know

Before first use, we recommend washing the bottles and caps and disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then allowing them to dry completely. Residual water in one millilitre of content means significant dilution, and in anhydrous products it can cause cloudiness.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. For short-term samples that the customer will use within a few weeks, this is not a concern. However, if you are filling sensitive ingredients, such as blends with a high proportion of unsaturated oils or compositions with citrus essential oils, store the testers in the dark until they are handed over.

The cap is plastic. With concentrated essential oils, pure fragrance compositions or contents with a higher proportion of solvents, we recommend testing the cap's behaviour with the specific content: fill one tester as a trial, let it stand for a few days and check both the seal and whether the cap changes appearance.

A practical approach is to number or code the testers and attach a sample list on a separate card.

The glass bottle goes in the glass recycling and the plastic cap in the plastics recycling; simply separate the two parts before disposal.

The tester is not intended for long-term storage of the finished product. It is a sample container; keep your stock of the composition in a dark glass bottle with a larger volume.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 1 ml glass cosmetic tester suitable for fragrance compositions?
Yes, the set is suitable for samples of perfumes and fragrance compositions. Glass does not react with alcohol or aromatic substances, and the clear contents are visible through the bottle wall. For the cap, we recommend testing the seal with your specific composition, especially if it contains a high proportion of pure essential oils.
How much does the 1 ml tester actually hold?
The tester is filled to the nominal volume of one millilitre. Physically there is slightly more space, but this difference serves as headspace for the cap and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the contents will overflow onto the thread when the cap is screwed on and the tester will not seal.
Can the glass tester be washed and reused?
Yes, the glass bottle can be washed and refilled repeatedly. Wash it with warm water and detergent, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. The plastic cap may retain a scent from a previous fragrance composition; for a strong scent it is better to use a new cap.
How do you fill a cosmetic tester with a narrow neck?
Most easily with a dropper, a needleless syringe or a small funnel. Thin contents such as fragrance compositions or oils flow quickly. Fill thicker serums slowly to prevent an air bubble from forming in the narrow bottle. After filling, wipe the neck and only then attach the cap.
Does the clear glass tester protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass does not protect the contents from light. For short-term samples that will be used within a few weeks, this is usually not a problem. If you are distributing samples of sensitive ingredients, such as oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids or citrus essential oils, store the filled testers in the dark until they are handed over.
Is the 1 ml tester also suitable for aqueous products, such as tonics or hydrolats?
Yes, the set can be used for a short-term sample of an aqueous product. Aqueous products must, however, be properly preserved, as filling small volumes increases the risk of contamination and the sample is opened frequently. For preparations without preservation, single-use samples intended for immediate consumption are more suitable.
