Product description

The glass roll-on bottle with a volume of 5 ml applies liquid contents directly to the skin. The roller ball in the neck rotates as it moves and leaves a thin layer of oil or perfume, so you do not need to touch the contents with your fingers. The set consists of a bottle made of clear glass, a plastic roller ball and a black screw cap.

Clear glass shows the colour of the contents and how much is left. The small volume suits oil-based perfumes, samples and travel packs. All three parts of the set are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

  • Oil-based perfumes – the roller ball applies a small amount precisely to the wrist or neck, and the fragrance does not disperse into the surroundings as it does with a sprayer.
  • Essential oil blends in a carrier oil – they are applied directly from the bottle, without dripping or measuring.
  • Oil serums, lip oils and cuticle oils – the roller ball applies a thin layer even to a small area, and the bottle fits into a pocket or a cosmetic bag.
  • Samples and test batches – 5 ml is enough to try a new recipe or fragrance before making a larger quantity.

The roll-on is intended for liquid contents, especially oils and oil blends. For very thin water-based or alcohol-based contents, we recommend testing in advance whether the roller ball leaks too much. Thick gels, creams and contents with solid particles, for example glitter or pieces of herbs, may block the roller ball.

Filling and dispensing

The bottle is filled without the roller ball; because the neck is narrow, this is easiest with a small funnel or a syringe. After filling, the roller ball is pressed into the neck until it fits firmly, and the bottle is closed with the cap, which protects the roller ball from dirt.

The amount that the roller ball transfers to the skin depends on the viscosity of the contents. A thinner oil is applied in a more generous layer, a thicker one in a thinner layer.

Before filling a whole batch, test one piece with the finished blend. Leave it lying on its side for a day and check that the roller ball dispenses evenly and the packaging does not leak.

Nominal and brimful volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is slightly larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the roller ball, which takes up part of the neck once it is pressed in. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume and the space above it is left empty.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the roller ball and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Otherwise, residual water would get into anhydrous contents.

The roller ball and the cap are made of polypropylene. For blends with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic parts behave after longer contact with the specific recipe.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store oils prone to oxidation and blends with essential oils in a box or away from direct light.

Closures for the same neck and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. If you choose your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation. After use, the bottle is sorted as glass, and the roller ball and the cap as plastic.

Frequently asked questions

What contents are suitable for a glass roll-on bottle with a plastic roller ball?
Liquid contents are suitable for a glass roll-on bottle with a plastic roller ball, especially oils, oil-based perfumes and essential oil blends in a carrier oil. Dispensing depends on viscosity. Very thin water-based or alcohol-based liquids may flow through the roller ball more generously, while thick gels, creams and contents with particles may block it. It is advisable to test the behaviour of your specific blend on one piece.
Can a 5 ml glass roll-on bottle be filled to the brim?
No, a 5 ml glass roll-on bottle is filled up to the nominal volume and some empty space should remain below the neck. The roller ball takes up part of the neck once it is pressed in. If the bottle were filled to the brim, the excess would be pushed out when the roller ball is inserted. The brimful volume is therefore slightly larger than the nominal volume and serves as a reserve, not as filling space.
Does a clear glass roll-on bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. Its advantage is that you can see the colour and the level of the product. Oil blends sensitive to light and oxidation are therefore best kept in a box, in a drawer or in a bag. For contents that are to stand in the light for a long time, packaging made of coloured glass is more suitable.
Can a 5 ml glass roll-on bottle be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle can be refilled after thorough washing and disinfection. Wash all parts, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. After each removal, check that the roller ball still sits firmly in the neck and rotates freely. For the cap, it is worth checking that it still seals well.
Is a 5 ml glass roll-on bottle also suitable for food?
No, the 5 ml glass roll-on set is not approved for contact with food. The glass bottle, the plastic roller ball and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The roll-on is therefore intended for cosmetics, that is, oil-based perfumes, essential oil blends in a carrier oil or oil serums. It is not used for storing or dispensing food.
