Product description

A glass roll-on with a capacity of 10 ml is a small bottle with a metal ball in the neck that, when moved across the skin, deposits the contents in a thin, even layer. It is suited to products applied precisely and in small amounts: oil perfumes, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, eye area serums, or lip and cuticle oils.

Clear glass reveals the colour and clarity of the contents and does not react with the fill, so it does not affect the scent. The silver screw cap covers the steel ball and protects it from contamination in a bag or pocket. The complete set is intended for cosmetics: the bottle, ball, and cap are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

How the roll-on dispenses and seals

The ball sits in a socket that is pressed into the bottle neck. During application it rotates and lifts a thin layer of fill from inside, so the dose depends on the number of strokes and the viscosity of the contents. Low- to medium-viscosity liquids work best: oils, oil serums, and light gels. Thick creams and butters will not turn the ball. Very thin aqueous solutions, on the other hand, are deposited in larger amounts.

When screwed on, the cap presses the ball into its socket and limits leakage of the contents during transport. Tightness with a specific fill should be verified on a test piece, especially with thin or alcohol-based fills.

Suitable for products such as

  • Oil perfumes – a fragrance composition in a carrier oil applied precisely to the wrists and neck without dispersing into the surroundings.
  • Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a vegetable oil, applied to the temples, wrists, or back of the neck.
  • Eye area serums – light oil or gel serums where the cool touch of the steel ball makes application more pleasant.
  • Lip and cuticle oils – small doses delivered precisely to a defined area, without greasy fingers.
  • Targeted serums – preparations intended for individual areas of the skin, where one or two strokes are sufficient.

Nominal volume and filling

Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is intended for under normal filling. Total volume to the brim is slightly larger and represents the physical capacity up to the neck. The difference serves as a reserve for the ball socket, which protrudes into the neck once pressed in, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

First fill the bottle to the nominal volume, then press the ball socket into the neck with even pressure until it seats firmly. Overfilling will cause the ball to push some of the contents out and contaminate the thread.

Good to know

Before first use, it is recommended to wash the bottle, ball, and cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow them to dry completely. Water residues in an oil-based fill cause cloudiness and impair microbiological stability.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Fills containing oils prone to oxidation, essential oils, or sensitive active ingredients should be kept out of direct light, for example in a box or a drawer.

  • Steel ball and aqueous fills – with aqueous, acidic, or saline fills it is worth testing whether the contents change colour over time and whether the ball loses its lustre.
  • Essential oils – glass is resistant to them. However, the fill also comes into contact with the ball socket and the cap, so diluted blends and testing on a single piece are recommended.
  • Solid particles – glitter, herb pieces, or undissolved extracts can block the ball. The fill should be clear or filtered.
  • Temperature – glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes; the fill should be lukewarm or cooled before pouring.
  • Waste sorting – the glass bottle, cap, and ball with socket should be separated before recycling.

The bottle, ball, and cap are also available separately in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dosing, and packaging behaviour with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 10 ml glass roll-on suitable for oil perfumes and essential oil blends?
Yes, oil perfumes and diluted essential oil blends are among the most common fills for roll-ons. Glass does not react with fragrance materials, and the ball deposits the oil in a thin layer precisely on the chosen spot. Blends diluted in a carrier oil are recommended, as the fill also comes into contact with the ball socket and the cap. The behaviour of a specific blend should be verified on a single piece.
Does the clear glass roll-on protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. Its advantage is that it shows the colour and clarity of the fill. Products containing oils prone to oxidation, essential oils, or sensitive active ingredients should therefore be stored in the dark, for example in a box. An antioxidant in the oil phase, such as Tocopherol, will also help.
How is the glass roll-on with a metal ball filled?
The roll-on is filled without the ball, directly through the bottle neck, using a dropper, syringe, or small funnel. The fill is added up to the nominal volume so that space remains in the neck for the ball socket. The socket is then pressed in with even pressure until it seats firmly, and the bottle is closed with the cap. Overfilling will cause some of the contents to be pushed out.
How viscous can the fill for a ball roll-on be?
A roll-on is suited to low- to medium-viscosity liquids, such as oils, oil serums, and light gels. Thick creams, butters, and solid gels will not turn the ball and will not reach the skin. Very thin aqueous solutions, on the other hand, are deposited in larger amounts and may leak more easily. The fill must not contain solid particles that could block the ball.
Can the 10 ml glass roll-on be reused?
Yes, once emptied the glass bottle can be washed, disinfected, and refilled. The ball socket is carefully levered out of the neck, all parts are washed with warm water and detergent, rinsed, treated with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and left to dry. Before the next fill, check that the socket still holds firmly in the neck and that the ball rotates freely.
