Product description

This glass roll-on with a 5 ml capacity applies its contents with a ball directly onto the skin in a thin, even layer, without dripping and without touching with the fingers. It is suited above all to oil serums, perfume oils and blends of essential oils in a carrier oil that are applied to small areas: the eye area, temples, wrists or nail cuticles.

The set consists of a bottle made of clear glass, a steel ball and a silver cap. Clear glass shows both the colour and the level of the contents, but it does not protect them from light. The metal ball rolls smoothly across the skin and the cap protects it from dirt.

What the roll-on is suited to

  • Oil serums for the eye area and lips – the ball applies a small amount exactly where it is needed.
  • Perfume oils and oil-based perfumes – applied to specific spots on the wrists and neck; the small capacity is practical for samples and travel packs.
  • Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil for the temples, nape or wrists.
  • Oils for nails and nail cuticles – the roll-on dispenses sparingly and the oil does not run off the treated area.

Filling and capacity

The figure of 5 ml is the nominal capacity, that is, the amount the bottle is intended to hold under normal filling. The total capacity to the brim is somewhat larger, because it also includes the space in the neck. This reserve is needed by the ball, which is pressed into the neck after filling, and by the contents, which expand slightly with heat. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal capacity, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will overflow when the ball is seated.

Fill the bottle before seating the ball, most easily with a dropper or a small funnel. Then press the ball into the neck with even pressure until it snaps firmly into place, and close the roll-on with the cap.

What is worth knowing

The roll-on works well with thin to medium-viscosity contents, that is, with oils, oil serums and thin emulsions. Thick gels, creams and butters cannot get under the ball. Very thin alcohol-based blends, on the other hand, may run out faster than is comfortable during application. With your own formulation it is worth filling one unit as a test and checking both the dispensing and the seal.

The ball is made of steel. With water-based, acidic or salty formulations it is advisable to watch, on a test sample, whether the appearance of the ball or the contents changes over time.

Before the first filling it is recommended to wash and disinfect the bottle, ball and cap and let them dry completely. Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature, so do not pour hot blends into it and, after washing in warm water, do not rinse it with cold.

The set is intended for cosmetic products.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 5 ml glass roll-on suitable for essential oils and perfume oils?
Yes, the 5 ml glass roll-on is suitable for blends of essential oils in a carrier oil as well as for perfume oils. The ball applies the contents to specific spots in a thin layer on the wrists, neck or temples. Essential oils are always put into the roll-on diluted in a carrier oil, since the contents are applied directly to the skin.
Does the clear glass roll-on protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. Its advantage is that you can see the colour and the remaining amount of the contents. Blends with essential oils and plant oils prone to oxidation are therefore best stored in the dark, for example in a box or a drawer, and prepared in smaller batches.
Is a roll-on with a metal ball suitable for water-based serums and gels?
Thin water-based serums can be applied with a metal-ball roll-on, but thick gels cannot. The ball needs liquid contents that flow freely beneath it; a thick gel or cream will not transfer to the skin. With water-based formulations, preservation is also necessary and it is worth making a test sample to check how the contents behave with the steel ball.
Can the 5 ml glass roll-on be reused?
Yes, the 5 ml glass roll-on can be refilled after thorough cleaning. Carefully remove the ball from the neck, wash all the parts, degrease them, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. When changing the scent it is worth checking whether the cap carries traces of the original scent.
What materials is the 5 ml glass roll-on with a metal ball made of?
The roll-on consists of three parts: a bottle of clear glass, a ball of steel and a silver plastic cap. All three are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, so the set is intended for cosmetics. When sorting waste, the cap and the ball are separated from the glass, as they are made of different materials.
