Product description

A white HDPE plastic bottle with a black pump is a complete set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products dispensed one-handed directly at the sink or in the shower: liquid soaps, shampoos, shower gels, conditioners, and body lotions. The 500 ml volume is suitable for everyday-use products as well as for refilling from a larger container.

HDPE is a lightweight and shatter-resistant plastic that performs well in the humid bathroom environment. Each pump stroke delivers approximately the same dose, so the product does not spill and the bottle neck stays clean.

How the set dispenses

The pump with a knurled collar screws directly onto the bottle neck. The knurling makes it easier to grip when tightening, even with wet hands. A single press dispenses approximately 1.8 ml of product. One press is typically enough for hands; two to three are needed for shampoo or shower gel.

Before first use, press the pump several times with nothing in the tube until the dip tube fills and product begins to flow. With thicker products this takes a little longer.

The pump's dip tube is supplied with extra length. If it bends against the bottom of the bottle after fitting, trim it with an angled cut so it ends just above the base. The angled cut prevents the tube from suctioning against the bottom, allowing the pump to empty the contents almost completely.

Which products it is suitable for

  • Liquid soaps and shower gels – the pump draws tenside-based products of medium viscosity reliably.
  • Shampoos and conditioners – the volume lasts for extended use and eliminates handling a cap in the shower.
  • Body lotions and thinner emulsions – suitable when the emulsion flows freely on its own.
  • Household refills – for example, dish-washing liquid.

Both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set does not hold food-contact certification.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended to hold under normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference serves as a buffer for the pump body with its dip tube, which displaces some contents once screwed in, and for product expansion with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

What to know before filling

Before first filling, wash the bottle, sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow it to dry completely. Pump a small amount of alcohol through the pump several times, then let it dry as well. Residual water in the dip tube would unnecessarily burden the preservative system of the product.

HDPE softens at elevated temperatures. Products manufactured hot should be filled only after cooling; otherwise the bottle may deform and, as the contents cool, draw the walls inward.

Products with solid particles – such as scrubs with granules, salt, or herb powder – are not suitable for this pump, as the particles will clog the valve. With very thin liquids the pump works, but may drip from the nozzle after pressing.

Apply labels to a dry, degreased surface. The bottle is made from HDPE and the pump from PP; both materials are recyclable plastics.

The bottle can also be fitted with other closures using the same neck type listed in the specifications. Closures and further ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying seal integrity, dosing behaviour, and container compatibility with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Can the pump on the 500 ml HDPE bottle handle a thick conditioner or body lotion?
Yes, the pump can handle conditioner and body lotion as long as the product flows on its own when the container is tilted. It draws liquid soaps, shampoos, and thinner emulsions reliably. Firm creams, butters, and gels that hold their shape will not be drawn up, or the pump will stop dispensing over time. At borderline viscosities, we recommend testing one filled bottle before filling an entire batch.
How much product does the pump dispense per press?
The pump dispenses approximately 1.8 ml per full press. From a bottle filled to 500 ml this gives an indicative 270 doses. The actual amount depends on product viscosity and whether the pump is pressed all the way down. With thicker products the dose tends to be slightly smaller.
Does the white HDPE bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the white bottle wall limits light penetration to the contents, which is helpful for formulations containing fragrance components and vegetable oils. Complete protection is not guaranteed, however. For formulations with light-sensitive ingredients, store the bottle away from direct sunlight and verify colour and fragrance stability on a test sample.
Can the HDPE plastic bottle with pump be reused?
Yes, for products for personal use an HDPE bottle with pump can be refilled. Before refilling, wash it with warm water, sanitise with alcohol, and allow to dry. Flush the pump by cycling warm water and then alcohol through it. The inside of the pump cannot be cleaned thoroughly, however, so for products intended for sale we recommend using a new set each time.
Is the HDPE bottle suitable for products with essential oils or alcohol?
Yes, when used with a finished cosmetic product containing fragrance or alcohol at standard usage levels. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not intended for long-term storage of concentrated essential oils or solvents, as these may soften the plastic or permeate through it over time. For a new formulation, we recommend verifying container behaviour on a test sample.
