SOLID SHAMPOO - PROCEDURE

1. put on a respirator and gloves (SCI is a fine powder that is easily released into the air in its loose state).
2. weigh SCI, SCS, water, mica powder and mango butter into a heat-resistant container, e.g., made of boiling glass.
3. place the mixture on the water bath and start heating, stirring constantly.
4. stir constantly until the mixture comes together into a stiff, moldable mass.
5.remove the container with the mixture from the water bath and once the mixture has cooled slightly (you will be able to hold the mixture in your hand without difficulty or it will reach about 40°C) add the preservative, keratin and fragrance oil. Mix well.
6. immediately fill the mould with the shampoo mass and leave it to cool.
7. once the shampoo has set, it is ready to use.

SOLID SHAMPOO AND ITS VARIATIONS

If you want to make your own solid shampoo with your favourite colour or scent or are looking for information onthe following lines are dedicated to these questions.

TENZIDY

The recipe for the simple solid shampoo uses a combination of two tensides, one of which is sodium cocoyl isethionate, a cleansing and foaming agent with mild degreasing properties. Also due to these properties, SCI is a widely used tenside in cosmetics. The disadvantage is that in its powdered state it is easily released into the air, so it is recommended to wear a respirator during shampoo preparation until SCI is incorporated into the mixture.

Sodium coco sulfate is the second tenside providing the cleansing and foaming properties of solid shampoo. It is a mild tenside made from coconut oil. It combines very well with oils and butters.

Tensides are crucial for the proper functionality of the shampoo. To change the ratio of tensides can cause the shampoo to not set or have the desired properties. The same is true of substituting tensides for others (make sure that the tensides are compatible with each other in terms of their charge, i.e. the rule of thumb is not to combine cationic and anionic tensides). Also, therefore, by manipulating a number of these raw materials you will obtain a shampoo with completely different properties.

VEGETABLE BUTTERS AND OILS

When it comes to using vegetable butters and oils in a recipe, you have a wide variety of raw materials available. You can substitute the mango butter from the recipe with any other butter or vegetable oil you prefer. If you increase the ratio of vegetable butter or oil, you may find that the shampoo will no longer degrease sufficiently and, in turn, the excess oil will leave your hair greasy.

DISTILLED WATER

Distilled water is used in cosmetics because, unlike regular tap water, it has a higher purity and does not contain minerals that could react with other ingredients. However, in a recipe for a simple solid shampoo, you can also replace distilled water with floral hydrolates, which have also undergone a distillation process. At the same time, you can also add a delicate fragrance to the shampoo.

POWDERED COLOURING - MICA

Mica powders are popular cosmetic dyes that combine well with various raw materials. Mica powders can be found in a wide variety of shades. There are also mica powders available that have been treated to make them easier to dissolve in water, called mica AquaPearls.

If you want a colourless white shampoo, simply omit the mica powder. Alternatively, you can use herbal or fruit powders to add colour, but there is a risk that the weight shampoo will be more susceptible to more extensive microbial contamination.

FRAGRANCE OIL

The delicate strawberry fragrance oil was chosen for its sweet scent. However, fragrance oils aren't the only thing you can scent your shampoo with. Essential oils from different plants are an alternative. The choice of essential oils is a little narrower than fragrance oils because not all plants produce enough essential substances. Alternatively, you can skip perfuming altogether.

CONSERVANT

Since solid shampoo will come into contact with water during its use, it is appropriate to use a preservative. However, since shampoo is a solid product with minimal water content, if stored properly (i.e. shampoo is always placed in a dry place after use to dry it out and keep it out of contact with water until further use), the preservative can also be omitted if the shampoo is consumed quickly.

On the other hand, it is always safer to use a preservative, so do not skip this step if possible. You can substitute Euxyl 9010 with any other broad-spectrum preservative effective in both acidic and neutral pH (up to pH 7 at least).

KERATIN

Keratin is a protein found in hair or nails. It gives hair strength and a healthy appearance. It is the active substance that makes the solid shampoo care for the quality of the hair. However, if you don't have keratin on hand, you can skip it altogether. Alternatively, choose other actives that are suitable for hair cosmetics and compatible with the other ingredients in the recipe and with the pH of the product, such as D-pathenol and others.

SILICONE MOULD

For the production of the solid shampoo, a silicone mould in the shape of a milled heart was used. However, a wide variety of different silicone moulds are available. Due to its flexibility, silicone makes it easy to remove the finished solidified shampoo.

If you don't have a silicone mould to hand, you can also use your hands to form balls or pancakes from the shampoo mass before it sets.

NOTICE

As mentioned, you can experiment with homemade recipes to achieve the desired properties. However, many factors such as humidity, temperature, quality of ingredients and storage can affect the final result.

Before using any raw material to make a cosmetic product, familiarize yourself with its properties, recommended dosage, storage conditions or safe handling. Any raw material may have the potential to cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, so before using a product, we recommend that you find out if you suffer from an allergy to any of the raw materials or the overall product, e.g. by a skin test.

If you have very sensitive or very acne-prone skin, or other skin and health problems, we recommend that you consult a medical professionalbefore applying a new product to your skin, whether it is a homemade cosmetic product, a pure raw material or a commercially available product.
