Product description

Twist-up packaging for lip balm sticks with a nominal volume of 5 ml. The melted mass is poured in, and after it solidifies the balm is pushed up by twisting the bottom part, with the cap sliding onto the body of the packaging.

The white opaque body conceals the contents, so minor shade differences between batches are not visible from the outside. Polypropylene is lightweight and shatterproof, meaning the packaging can withstand being carried in a handbag, pocket, or sports bag.

How the packaging works

  • Twist-up mechanism – twisting the bottom part moves the piston with the balm upward; the product is dispensed without finger contact and can be retracted after use.
  • Snap-on cap – protects the balm surface from dust and dirt; it fits directly onto the body of the packaging with no thread.
  • White body – conceals the contents and pairs well with a coloured label or print; suitable for private label as well as as a gift.

Filling and volume

Nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under standard filling conditions. The total capacity to the brim is slightly larger. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim; overfilling causes the cap to press against the balm surface and leave an impression.

Before filling, twist the piston fully down. Pour the melted balm slowly to avoid air bubbles getting trapped in the mass, and leave it to solidify undisturbed at room temperature. If a depression forms in the centre after solidifying, simply top up the stick with a small amount of melted mass.

Before pouring a larger batch, test one piece. This lets you check how the mass behaves in the packaging at your pouring temperature, whether the balm releases easily after solidifying, and whether it sticks to the walls.

What's good to know

  • Preparation before first fill – we recommend washing the packaging, disinfecting it, and letting it dry completely. Residual moisture has no place in an anhydrous balm.
  • Suitability for cosmetics – the packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products, as confirmed by a declaration of conformity.
  • Reuse – after thorough cleaning and disinfection, the packaging can be refilled.

Frequently asked questions

How does a twist-up lip balm container work?
The balm is pushed up by twisting the bottom part of the packaging, and the cap snaps onto the body with no thread. Twisting moves the piston with the stick upward, so the balm is applied without finger contact. After use, the stick is twisted back down and the cap protects it from dust and dirt.
How do you fill a twist-up lip balm container?
The packaging is filled with melted mass after twisting the piston to the bottom position. The balm is poured to the nominal volume, left to solidify undisturbed at room temperature, and any depression in the centre is topped up. The cap is fitted only after the balm has fully solidified; fitting it earlier will leave an impression in the mass.
How much balm fits in a container with a nominal volume of 5 ml?
Under standard filling conditions, approximately 5 ml of mass is expected, corresponding to the nominal volume. The packaging physically holds slightly more, but filling to the brim causes the cap to press against the stick and makes the balm harder to push up. The exact amount depends on the formulation and how the mass settles as it cools.
Can a twist-up lip balm container be used more than once?
Yes, after cleaning the packaging can be refilled. Residue of the old balm is removed with warm water and detergent, then the packaging is disinfected and left to dry completely. The piston is twisted back to the bottom position before refilling.
Is the white plastic lip balm container suitable for cosmetics?
Yes, the packaging is made from polypropylene and its suitability for use with cosmetic products is confirmed by a declaration of conformity. It is suitable for anhydrous stick balms that are poured in melted and pushed up by twisting the bottom after solidifying. The white opaque body also conceals any shade variations in the mass.
