This is a plastic lip balm container made from polypropylene (PP) in white, designed for home use and small-batch production of solid lip balms. It suits any application where you need a clean, lightweight and unbreakable container for a finished oil-wax blend that you pour in melted and leave to set.
PP plastic is considerably lighter and impact-resistant compared to glass, so the container withstands everyday handling and being carried in a bag or pocket without risk of breakage. The white opaque wall visually conceals the contents and gives a neutral appearance, which makes uniform labelling across an entire range easier.
Suitable for products such as
- Solid lip balms – a classic wax-oil formula poured hot, which sets firm inside the container.
- Nourishing and protective balms with a higher proportion of butters and waxes, where you will appreciate a sturdy container that holds its shape.
- Balms for smaller areas of skin (lips, fingertips, dry patches) thanks to the compact format suitable for carrying on the go.
The container is intended for anhydrous, oil-based formulas. Water-based or emulsion products with a higher water content are not suitable – the container has no dispensing mechanism for liquid textures, and with water the risk of microbial contamination also increases.
What to know when filling
The container is filled with the finished melted mass hot, which sets as it cools. Before pouring, we recommend checking the temperature of the blend against your specific formula – PP is generally a heat-resistant material, but it is advisable to let a very hot mass cool slightly before pouring to avoid deforming the thin wall.
Before the first fill, wash the new container and sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then leave it to dry completely. With anhydrous balms, it is essential that no water remains inside the container.
For formulas with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing compatibility on a single piece – some concentrated ingredients may stress the plastic over time. For standard wax-oil balms this is generally not an issue.
The container is made from recyclable polypropylene (PP); once empty and cleaned, it belongs in plastic waste collection. Based on technical documentation, the packaging material is suitable for contact with cosmetic products and meets the applicable regulatory requirements. A declaration of conformity and test certificate are included with the product.
Nominal and total volume
When filling, work with the nominal volume – the volume the container is designed for under standard filling. The total capacity to the brim is slightly larger; the difference forms a reserve for the cap and to prevent the mass from overflowing as it sets and during everyday handling. The container should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the very top.
Caps with the same neck type, as well as ready-made container + cap combinations, are available in the Handymade range. If assembling your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and the container's behaviour with your specific formula.
