Plastic bottle, black 42 mm, 1 l is an opaque container made of HDPE for cosmetic and technical preparations in larger quantities. The black wall blocks light completely, making it suitable for formulations with light-sensitive ingredients such as vegetable oils, essential oils, or certain active substances. HDPE is lightweight and shatterproof, so the bottle works well where glass is impractical due to weight or breakage risk: in the bathroom, workshop, during delivery, or when storing stock.

The one-litre volume makes it suitable for body lotions, shower gels, shampoos, liquid soaps, massage and bath oils, as well as cleaning products and other household preparations made in larger batches or used to fill smaller containers. The wider 42 mm neck thread makes filling and cleaning easier. The packaging is suitable for contact with cosmetic products and meets the relevant regulatory requirements; a declaration of conformity is available with the product.

Key properties

• Light protection – the black, fully opaque material does not transmit light, which slows the oxidation of oils and the fading of colorants or fragrances. The contents are not visible through the wall, so always label the bottle.
• Low weight and impact resistance – HDPE does not crack on impact or when compressed, which is an advantage for handling and transport at one-litre volume.
• Wide 42 mm neck – makes filling thicker preparations (lotions, gels, creamy shower gels) and cleaning the inside easier. It also allows fitting a pump or a cap with larger flow.
• Chemical resistance of HDPE – the material tolerates aqueous, alcoholic, and oil-based contents, surfactant systems, and most common cosmetic ingredients well.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is designed for regular filling, and corresponds to the product quantity stated on the label. Total brimful volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the cap, the pump dip tube, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle seals poorly and the contents will overflow when a pump is attached.

Caps and pumps with the same neck type as stated in the product parameters fit this bottle. Ready-made combinations of bottle with cap or pump are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal, dosage, and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Good to know

Before first use, wash the bottle, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. After emptying, wash with warm water and a surfactant, rinse, and disinfect again before reuse.

Undiluted essential oils, fragrance compositions, and certain solvents may gradually permeate the HDPE wall or extract components from it. For contents with a high proportion of these substances, we recommend a stability test in packaging. At typical cosmetic concentrations this is not an issue.

Self-adhesive labels and print adhere well to the black plastic. When choosing an adhesive, opt for a type designed for polyolefins to prevent the label from peeling due to oil or moisture.

HDPE is one of the most easily recyclable plastics. Once emptied and rinsed, the bottle is sorted as plastic packaging.
