Product description

Plastic bottle, transparent 24/410, 150 ml

A lightweight and shatterproof PET bottle for tonics, facial and hair mists, micellar waters, liquid soaps, shampoos, shower gels, body lotions, or massage oils. The nominal volume of 150 ml and the 24/410 neck finish make it a versatile container for home workshops and small-scale production, including splitting raw materials into smaller working portions.

The transparent material shows the colour, clarity, and remaining fill level at a glance, so both the customer and the producer can see what is inside the bottle. PET is significantly lighter than glass and will not shatter if dropped, making it suitable for travel packaging, bathroom use, and shower environments. The packaging material is suitable for contact with cosmetic products; a declaration of conformity and test report are available on the product page.

Why choose a transparent PET bottle

  • Low weight – the bottle weighs a fraction of what glass of the same volume does, reducing shipping costs and making handling easier when filling larger batches.
  • Shatter resistance – suitable for the shower, travel, and products used with wet hands.
  • Visible contents – the clear material allows the colour and fill level to be checked at any time; with coloured tonics or oils, the contents themselves become part of the product's appearance.
  • Standard 24/410 neck finish – a common neck size with a wide range of compatible caps and dispensers available.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling conditions, and it is this figure that appears on the finished product label. The total brimful volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference accounts for the headspace for the cap, pump, or sprayer — the dip tube of which displaces some of the fill upwards — as well as room for the contents to expand with temperature changes. The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling to the neck would cause the product to overflow once a dispenser is fitted, and the container could deform if warmed.

What the bottle is suitable for

  • Water- and alcohol-based formulations – tonics, hydrolats, facial mists, micellar waters, hair waters, and detangling sprays. Combined with a sprayer it makes a practical facial or hair mist.
  • Rinse-off products – liquid soaps, shampoos, shower gels, conditioners, and cleansing emulsions used in the shower.
  • Body lotions and light emulsions – more fluid cream formulations dispensed by pump or through a flip-top cap.
  • Massage and body oils – vegetable oils and oil blends with a standard proportion of essential oils; at higher concentrations it is advisable to verify the material's behaviour, see below.
  • Raw materials for further processing – splitting hydrolats, glycerin, surfactants, or oils into smaller working portions in the workshop.

For light-sensitive contents the transparent bottle is less suitable; see the frequently asked questions below.

Caps and combinations

Caps with a 24/410 neck finish and ready-made bottle-and-cap combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying seal integrity, dispensing performance, and container behaviour with the specific formulation, particularly with thicker emulsions where the pump type matters, and with sprays where fill viscosity is key.

What to keep in mind

Preparation before first filling. Before filling, we recommend rinsing the bottle with lukewarm water or a mild detergent solution, rinsing thoroughly, and sanitising with isopropanol or ethanol. The bottle must be completely dry before filling so that residual water does not dilute the product or strain the preservation system.

When filling water-based formulations, it is advisable to use a funnel or a filling bottle with a narrow tip and to pour in a single steady stream. Air bubbles in tonics and gel products are harder to remove through a narrow neck and can distort the visible fill level.

Heat and hot-fill. PET is not designed for hot-fill applications. Emulsions, soaps, and gels should be filled only after cooling to room temperature; otherwise the bottle may deform or turn hazy. For the same reason the bottle must not be sterilised by boiling or washed in a dishwasher.

Essential oils and solvents. PET tolerates water, ethanol at standard concentrations, glycerin, and vegetable oils. However, concentrated essential oils — especially citrus — and certain solvents can turn the material hazy or cause it to soften with prolonged contact. In finished products with a standard dosage of essential oils this is generally not an issue, but with concentrated blends and fragrance compositions we recommend a compatibility test on a single bottle.

The bottle is not suitable for storing neat essential oils, fragrance compositions, acetone, petrol, or other aggressive solvents. For these substances, choose glass.

Reuse. The bottle can be refilled after thorough washing and sanitising. Before each reuse, check that the inside has not been stained or turned hazy by the previous contents, that the neck thread is undamaged, and that the cap still seals properly. Residual scent from a previous fill is harder to remove from plastic than from glass.

Labelling. The smooth cylindrical shape allows a label to be applied around the circumference. Self-adhesive labels with a strong adhesive bond well to smooth PET; for shower products, choose a water-resistant label to prevent it from peeling in a wet environment.

Recycling. The bottle is made from PET, which is among the most readily recyclable plastics. Once empty, simply rinse it and place it in the plastics recycling stream.

Frequently asked questions

Does a transparent PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, a transparent PET bottle does not provide light protection. It is therefore suited to formulations that are not sensitive to light, such as most tonics, soaps, and shampoos, and to products that are used up quickly. Oils prone to oxidation, vitamin serums, or formulations containing natural colorants are better filled into amber or blue glass, or stored away from direct light.
Is the PET bottle suitable for massage oil containing essential oils?
Yes, the bottle is suitable for finished massage and body oils with a standard dosage of essential oils. Concentrated essential oils — particularly citrus — and undiluted fragrance compositions can turn PET hazy or cause it to soften with prolonged contact. At a higher essential oil content we recommend verifying the material's behaviour on a single bottle first.
Can I fill the PET bottle with a hot product?
No, the PET bottle is not designed for hot-fill use. Hot emulsions, soaps, and gels can deform or cloud the container, so the product should be allowed to cool to room temperature before filling. The bottle must also not be sterilised by boiling or washed in a dishwasher; isopropanol or ethanol is sufficient for sanitising.
How much product fits in the 150 ml bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 150 ml, even though its brimful physical capacity is slightly larger. The difference is the headspace for the dip tube of a pump or sprayer, which displaces some of the contents upwards once fitted, and for expansion of the fill with temperature changes. Filling to the neck would cause the product to overflow when a cap is attached.
What cap fits the 24/410 neck bottle?
Any closure with a 24/410 neck finish fits the bottle, which is one of the most common neck sizes available. Depending on the type of product, you can choose a standard cap, a pump, or a sprayer. Suitable closures and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range; with a custom combination it is advisable to verify seal integrity and dispensing performance with the specific formulation.
Can the PET bottle be reused?
Yes, the bottle can be refilled after thorough washing and sanitising. Before reuse, check that the inside has not been stained or turned hazy by the previous contents, that the neck thread is undamaged, and that the cap still seals properly. Residual scent from a previous fill is harder to remove from plastic than from glass, so it is best to keep to the same type of product.
