Product description

A black plastic bottle 200 ml made of PET protects the contents from light and comes without a closure, so you can choose the dispensing method to suit your product. The opaque black finish is particularly suited to formulations with light-sensitive ingredients – vegetable and massage oils, serums and body milks with vitamins, or products with essential oils. PET is lightweight and shatter-resistant, so the bottle holds up in the shower, bathroom and on the go. The volume matches standard shampoos, shower gels, conditioners, body milks, tonics and micellar waters. The packaging material is suitable for contact with cosmetics and for direct food contact, so the bottle can also be used for home-made oils, flavoured vinegars, syrups or herbal infusions.

Why choose the black PET bottle

  • Light protection – the opaque material slows the oxidation of oils and the degradation of sensitive active ingredients. It also conceals any natural colour changes in the contents, such as the darkening of botanical extracts.
  • Low weight and durability – PET does not crack when dropped, the bottle is safe in the wet environment of a shower and reduces shipping costs.
  • Glossy smooth surface – holds labels well, and the black colour lets even a simple single-colour print stand out.
  • Standard neck finish – the 24/410 thread is one of the most common sizes, so there is a wide choice of closures and the bottle combines easily with different dispensing options.
  • Food-grade quality – the material is suitable for direct food contact under normal conditions of use, so the bottle can be used outside cosmetics as well.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume right up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference between the two provides clearance for a closure, pump or sprayer, whose dip tube or insert takes up part of the space, and also for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise, when the closure is fitted, the contents are forced into the thread and the bottle does not seal properly.

The black bottle does not show the fill level, so fill it using a measuring cylinder or by weight according to the density of your product.

Suitable for products such as

The bottle works well wherever content stability and practical bathroom use matter. With shampoos, shower gels and conditioners, customers appreciate a shatter-resistant pack and easy one-handed dispensing. Body milks and light creams dispense well from a bottle as long as they are not too thick. For facial, massage and body oils, light protection is key, extending the time before the oil begins to oxidise. Tonics, facial waters and micellar waters have low viscosity and the bottle volume matches their typical usage. Outside cosmetics, the bottle is suitable for home-made food products with a liquid consistency.

Closures

Closures with the same neck finish as stated in the product parameters, and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. When creating your own combination, we recommend testing seal integrity and dispensing performance with the specific formulation – viscosity, particle content or foaming behaviour all affect which dispensing method will work in practice.

Good to know

Before the first fill, rinse the bottle, sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely, neck down. Residual water in the packaging would dilute the product and could cause a microbial issue in anhydrous formulations.

PET and heat – the plastic deforms and loses its shape at elevated temperatures. Allow emulsions, gels and oils to cool to near room temperature before filling. Hot filling is not suitable for this pack.

Essential oils and solvents – at standard cosmetic usage levels of essential oils in a finished product, PET performs well. Pure undiluted essential oils, acetone and similar aggressive substances that can damage the plastic surface are not suitable. For formulations with a higher alcohol content or unusual ingredients, we recommend testing pack compatibility first.

Reuse is possible – after thorough washing and sanitising, check that the thread is undamaged and that the bottle seals properly. Oil residues can be removed from PET with warm water and detergent, not with solvents.

Labelling – the smooth surface is suitable for adhesive labels; the dimensions for the label design can be derived from the packaging parameters.

Recycling – PET is among the most readily recyclable plastics; after use, the bottle belongs in the sorted plastics collection.

The opaque bottle also conceals any phase separation or sediment. For emulsions and products containing particles, it is advisable to test formulation stability in a transparent pack before filling into the black bottle.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the black opaque PET bottle does not allow light to pass through and thus protects the contents from photo-oxidation. It is particularly suited to vegetable oils, vitamin serums and products with essential oils that lose their efficacy or change their scent when exposed to light. However, light protection does not replace preservation or antioxidants in the formulation.
Can I fill the 200 ml plastic bottle right to the top?
No, the bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 200 ml, not to the neck. The headspace is reserved for the pump dip tube or closure insert and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Overfilling forces the product into the thread when closing, the closure does not seat properly and the bottle may leak.
Is the 200 ml plastic bottle suitable for food?
Yes, the packaging material is suitable for direct food contact under normal conditions of use and meets food-grade requirements. The bottle can be used for home-made oils, flavoured vinegars, syrups or herbal infusions. Rinse and dry it before filling; hot filling is not suitable for PET.
Which closure fits the plastic bottle with a 24/410 neck?
Any closure with a 24/410 neck fits the bottle, which is one of the most common thread sizes. Suitable closures and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range by the neck finish stated in the parameters. When making your own combination, we recommend testing the seal and dispensing performance with the specific product.
Can the PET plastic bottle be used for oils and products with essential oils?
Yes, PET bottles are suitable for vegetable oils and for finished products with standard essential oil usage levels. Undiluted neat essential oils and aggressive solvents that can damage the plastic are not suitable. For formulations with a higher alcohol content or unusual ingredients, we recommend testing pack behaviour first.
How do I clean the plastic bottle before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water and detergent, rinse thoroughly, sanitise with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave to dry neck down. Before refilling, check the thread and the seal with the closure. Do not clean an oil-contaminated bottle with solvents that could damage the PET surface.
