Product description

Brown plastic dropper bottle 50 ml is a lightweight, shatter-resistant container designed for liquid preparations that require light protection. The brown colouring reduces the transmission of daylight and helps maintain the stability of sensitive ingredients – plant and essential oils, tinctures, herbal extracts, and serums with active substances.

Suitable for facial serums, facial, body and massage oils, tonics, tinctures, alcohol-based extracts, and smaller sample quantities during formulation development. The PET material holds up in the bathroom, on the go, and when shipping to customers where glass might break. The container is suitable for cosmetic products and is also certified for direct food contact.

Dropper bottle is the name of the shape – a slender body with a narrow neck that makes precise pouring and dosing easier without spilling.

Why choose the brown PET dropper bottle

  • Light protection – the brown material limits light transmission, slowing down oxidation of oils and degradation of light-sensitive active substances.
  • Low weight and shatter resistance – PET is significantly lighter than glass, reducing shipping costs and the risk of damage in transit.
  • Narrow neck – makes measuring by drops or in small doses easier and limits contact between the contents and air when opened.
  • Suitable for cosmetics and food – the material meets requirements for contact with both cosmetic products and food; a declaration of conformity is available with the product.
  • Practical volume – 50 ml is a common size for serums, facial oils and tinctures that are used up within a few weeks to months.

Practical use

The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the quantity the container is designed for under normal filling conditions. The total volume up to the neck is greater – the difference provides a reserve for the closure, dropper or pump, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If the container is filled to the brim, the contents will overflow when the dropper is fitted, and warming may force the closure open.

Before filling for the first time, rinse the bottle, sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave it to dry completely upside down. Residual water in an oil-based or anhydrous product promotes microbial growth.

The bottle fills well with oil-based and water-based preparations of standard cosmetic viscosity – serums, tonics, oils, tinctures, hydrolates. For thick creams or balms the narrow neck is not practical; jars are better suited for those. With alcohol-based extracts and preparations with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend testing PET behaviour with the specific formulation – some solvents and concentrated essential oils may stress the plastic over time. Standard dilution of essential oils in a carrier oil or emulsion is normal use.

Closures with the matching neck type and ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend verifying seal integrity and dosing with the specific formulation, especially if the container will be shipped by post.

Good to know

  • Heat – PET is not suitable for hot filling. Allow the preparation to cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle may deform.
  • Reuse – the bottle can be used more than once if thoroughly washed and sanitised. When switching contents (for example from an essential oil to a hydrolate), the plastic may retain the scent of the previous preparation.
  • Labelling – the smooth cylindrical body labels well; label dimensions can be found in the product parameters. For oils, choose a grease-resistant label.
  • Translucency – brown PET is translucent, so the fill level is visible, but the colour of the preparation will not come through clearly. If you want to show the product colour, choose a clear container and address light sensitivity separately.
  • Recycling – the empty PET bottle is sorted as plastic waste.

Do not expose the bottle to aggressive chemicals or concentrated solvents. It is suitable for standard cosmetic formulations; for non-standard mixtures, always test with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown plastic dropper bottle protect the contents from light as effectively as brown glass?
The brown PET dropper bottle reduces light transmission, but it is translucent, not a complete barrier. For standard oils, serums and tinctures the protection is sufficient when the bottle is stored away from direct sunlight. For particularly light-sensitive ingredients, it is sensible to combine a dark container with storage in a box or in the dark.
Can I fill the PET dropper bottle with essential oils or alcohol-based tinctures?
Yes, essential oils diluted in a carrier oil, serum or emulsion, as well as alcohol-based tinctures, can be filled into the PET dropper bottle. With undiluted essential oils and concentrated solvents, we recommend testing the plastic's behaviour with the specific contents, as some substances may stress PET over time. In such cases, glass is the safer option.
Why should the plastic dropper bottle not be filled to the brim?
Because the nominal volume is the quantity the container is designed for, and the space above it is a reserve for the closure and for expansion of the contents. When filled to the brim, the contents will overflow when the dropper or pump is fitted, and a temperature change may force the closure open. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the neck.
How to prepare the plastic dropper bottle before first use?
Rinse the bottle with clean water, sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave it to dry completely upside down. Residual water, especially in oil-based and anhydrous preparations, promotes microbial growth. Do not use hot water or boiling with PET; the material may deform.
Is the brown plastic dropper bottle also suitable for food?
Yes, the container is certified for direct food contact under normal conditions of use, in addition to being suitable for cosmetic products. It is therefore also suitable for homemade herbal oils, syrups or extracts. A declaration of conformity is available with the product. Even for food use, the container is not suitable for hot filling.
Which closure fits the brown PET dropper bottle 50 ml?
Suitable closures are those with the same neck type as stated in this bottle's parameters – screw cap, dropper or pump. Ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, verify seal integrity and dosing with the specific formulation in advance, especially with oils and when shipping by post.
