Product description

A clear plastic bottle made from recycled PET with a nominal volume of 250 ml and a 24/410 neck finish is designed for filling liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products. The transparent material shows the contents and their colour, making it suitable for products where the contents should be visible: tonics, micellar and facial waters, shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, body lotions and massage oils. PET is lightweight and shatterproof, so the bottle holds up in the shower, in a travel bag and when shipped to customers.

The bottle is made from recycled PET of European origin. Compared to a bottle made from virgin plastic, the way of working with the packaging and its filling properties remain unchanged, while the consumption of primary raw material is reduced. The packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products and the declaration of conformity is provided with the product. The bottle is supplied in both cosmetic and technical grade, so it can also be used for household preparations.

What products is the 250 ml bottle suitable for

  • Tonics, hydrolats and facial waters – water-based products with low viscosity, where the transparent packaging reveals the clarity or slight colouring of the contents.
  • Shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps – the 250 ml volume matches typical bathroom use and lightweight plastic is safer than glass in a wet environment.
  • Body lotions and light emulsions – fluid to medium-thick textures that can be conveniently dispensed from the bottle through a suitable closure.
  • Massage and body oils – PET is a suitable material for vegetable oils, but for light-sensitive oils bear in mind that the transparent bottle does not protect them from light.
  • Household preparations – in technical grade also suitable for room sprays, fresheners and everyday household cleaning products.

Nominal volume and brim-full volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended under normal filling conditions and which is stated on the label. Total brim-full volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference between them provides clearance for the closure and its dispensing component, for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, and for safe handling without overflow. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

When filling, leave clearance in the neck for the closure. With a pump sprayer or other closure fitted with a dip tube, also account for the volume the tube displaces upward when screwed in.

Closures and ready-made combinations

The bottle is compatible with closures that share the same 24/410 neck finish. Individual closures as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying seal integrity and dispensing with the specific formulation, particularly for thicker emulsions and products intended for transport.

What to know before filling

  • Preparation – before first use, rinse the bottle, disinfect as needed with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging would dilute the product and impair its microbiological stability.
  • Content temperature – PET is not intended for hot-fill applications. Allow emulsions, gels and extracts to cool to approximately room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle may deform.
  • Light – the transparent packaging does not protect the contents from light. Store products containing light-sensitive ingredients away from direct sunlight or choose a dark-coloured container for them.
  • Product composition – typical cosmetic concentrations of fragrance materials and essential oils do not harm PET. Undiluted essential oils, highly concentrated fragrance compositions and certain solvents may, however, degrade or cloud the plastic surface over time. For atypical formulations, we recommend testing on a single unit first.
  • Label – on a transparent bottle the back of the label is also visible, so it is advisable to use an opaque label or to account for this in the design.
  • Reuse – the bottle can be reused after thorough washing and drying, provided the thread is undamaged and the closure still seals.
  • Recycling – the bottle is marked with material code PET 1 and once emptied and rinsed belongs in the separated plastic waste collection.

Do not expose the bottle to heat or aggressive chemicals. Do not fill with hot contents and do not store in direct sunlight.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, a clear PET bottle does not protect the contents from light. It is therefore suited to products that are unaffected by light, or to items stored in a cabinet or in a bathroom away from a window. For oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, essential oils and light-sensitive active ingredients, a dark bottle or consistent storage in the dark is preferable.
Can I fill the recycled 250 ml PET bottle with oil?
Yes, PET is a suitable material for vegetable and massage oils. Oil does not harm the plastic and the bottle will not shatter, which is practical for massage oils used in the bathroom. Oil-based products sensitive to oxidation are best kept in the dark, however, as the transparent packaging does not protect them from light.
Is the 24/410 PET bottle suitable for alcohol-based tonics and perfumed waters?
Yes, standard alcohol-based tonics and hydroalcoholic products can be filled into a PET bottle. Ethanol at cosmetic concentrations does not attack PET. Caution is warranted with perfumed waters containing a high proportion of fragrance composition, where clouding or changes to the plastic surface may occur over time. For such products, we recommend testing in a single unit before filling a larger batch.
Why is the 250 ml bottle not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim, because the upper part of the neck serves as clearance for the closure. Once the closure is screwed on — particularly a pump sprayer with a dip tube — the liquid level rises and contents filled to the brim would overflow. The clearance also allows the contents to expand slightly with temperature changes without the bottle leaking.
Can the recycled PET bottle be reused and how should it be cleaned?
Yes, the bottle can be reused provided the thread is undamaged and the closure seals. Before refilling, wash it with warm water and detergent, rinse thoroughly, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Do not use boiling water or aggressive solvents for cleaning, as these could deform or damage the PET.
