Product description
A one-litre white plastic bottle with a wide 42 mm neck is designed for larger volumes of liquid and thicker products where convenient filling and pouring both matter. The plastic is lightweight and shatter-resistant, making the bottle suitable for the bathroom, workshop, and transport.
It is most commonly filled with shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, and conditioners, as well as household cleaning products. The 1 l volume is also well suited for refills used to top up smaller pump bottles, and for storing semi-finished materials such as surfactant blends or aqueous solutions.
What the one-litre bottle is suitable for
- Bulk and family-size packs – one litre covers extended use and reduces the number of smaller containers.
- Thicker products – the wide neck makes it easier to fill gels, conditioners, and dense emulsions that would flow slowly through a narrow opening and trap air.
- Household care – laundry gels, dishwashing liquids, and cleaners are easy to dispense from a lightweight plastic bottle.
- Light-sensitive contents – the white wall blocks more light than clear plastic, which is beneficial for products containing dyes and fragrance.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. Total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the closure or pump and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes.
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. With foaming products, the headspace below the neck also makes filling itself easier.
Closure and neck
Closures with the same neck type and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are available from Handymade. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying leak-tightness, dispensing behaviour, and compatibility of the packaging with the specific formulation, especially if the bottle will be transported on its side.
What to know before filling
- Preparation – wash the new bottle with warm water and detergent, rinse thoroughly, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. Residual water inside the packaging increases preservation requirements.
- Filling temperature – fill the product once it has cooled down. Hot material can soften or deform the plastic wall, and as it cools the bottle may collapse inward.
- Label – apply to a dry, degreased surface. For bathroom and household products, a waterproof film label is the proven choice.
- Recycling – an empty, rinsed bottle belongs in the sorted plastic waste collection.
Concentrated essential oils, solvents, and products with a high alcohol content may degrade the plastic or permeate through it. Test compatibility with such contents on a sample bottle over several weeks.
